It is my opinion that the proposed vendors changes are not good. Dont the DEVS have better things to like fix the fact the only one mod sticks from a AA or CA lol.
If all merchants can get together, just say NO to the changes.
NO, sign

In case you missed it, they have decided to pull the change based on player feedback and give it a little more internal design time.

I saw it, but I support a boycott, should anything like this go live.
This idea is fundementally stupid, in many ways. Unless there are massive changes, I will not list my vendors. (Or if I do I might just put open up a dice shop and name them all funny like.
Really, please, please, talk some sense into whoever is behind this idea. Make them actually run a store in SWG or something!!!
But thanks for pulling the idea! Really. Much appreciation!
Sincerely,
Bhasayate

it would have been a good system if say the master merchant were given an option when placing a vendor to have it accessible through the bazaar. this way ppl on planets like talus or rori could get a bit more attention where as their shops might go unnoticed a lot. i dont think its something everyone should get to do and having it be optional would still allow for master merchants to have storage vendors.

As a crafter, I can see the downside to this Galaxy Wide Vendor Search. The thing that scares me the most is the people that are crafters, but that's not really the way they make money. They are an Architect AND a master Rifleman that farms for excellent loot. They make 6-7 million off of loot so they can sell their large house for 30k, and not feel like they're losing money.
On the other hand, I see a lot of opportunities for Merchant with this system. Even more reasons to Master Merchant. Make it like ebay where we get the ability to be at the top of the list, and in different colors (remove HTML from names so merchants are the only one that can list in color in the Galaxy Vendor).
The pure amount of information is going to be ridiculous. Imagine how many things will pop if you look for pistols, so anything that brings your stuff to the forefront will be a great boon.

Problems with the system from what I see:
Merchant sells something cheap but have a high door fee. Note: This happen in beta and the skill to list in on the bazaar was removed. If the DEVs do this they need to removed the door fee.
Xp when players uses a vendor. How will new merchant get xp.
Should only master merchant be able to list on the bazaar. This forces another Proffesion to be a master to do anything useful. I'm only a 0403 merchant and I'm happy with it. And I dont have the points to master it. Should the bazaar listing start at novice merchant then make it cheaper for the listing the higher the merchant and free at master.
Buying of other items. When I enter a mall looking for something, I might check the other vendors. If I'm buying from the bazaar, I'll never look at the other vendors there cause I never visted that mall.
To many listings on the bazaar. There are many crafters/ merchant out there. The listing would take to long to search for what you want at the price you want. The DEVs need to fix/ improve the bazaar catagory.
Now for the good thing this will do for the buyer:
Being able to find the items they want without searching 15 empty/ near emtpy vendors. Finding what they want at a cheap price. I've gone to many vendors to only see a junk item worth 99999999. Or I want something but the price is 10 times the amount I think it's worth.

Don't just boycott, protest!
If a change goes through that will kill our profs, I will put as many stoopid dice on the vendors as I can, and name them really crazy, place 1 units of whatever, as many as I can, on all my vendors, in protest.

Ok... help me understand why a galaxy wide search is a bad thing.
Personally, I'm looking forward to being able to gauge the market and set competitive prices with out having to leave home.
Currently I spend 6 to 10 hours a week on trying to figure out how much to sell stuff for, and I do this by running all of the freakin galaxy seeing what other people are selling that same stuff for... if I could do that same thing with a simple search I might actually be able to PLAY this GAME again.
The way I see it, this is going to fix a lot of the economy issues.
Peace

The main problem comes with new characters to a profession. That's the number one problem with this entire thing. A Master Merchant doesn't have to look at this and say to himself, "where am I going to get xp?" S/he's already got the xp. All they need is the cash, so they can charge a credit above cost (or less if they wanna be a jerk about it), get all the money, and the new Merchant is stuck with made product and no credits.
Essentially, you'd be forcing anyone coming into the game to have some sort of combat profession (or ID like me) to support their "hobby" of being a merchant. The bigger merchants are the ones who can afford to (and have the ability to) do the snazzy * Item on the vendors... with a galaxy-wide bazaar those are the only ones people will bother to look at because they'll all be the same price, essentially.
I actually find it quite humorous how people try to apply real life economics to SWG. They're not the same thing. (Thankfully) real life doesn't have the kind of profitable vigilantism that is present in SWG. You go out and kill 200 thugs in the outskirts of NYC for the cash on their bodies and you end up in prison for life. You go deer hunting and no pearls worth 500k are gonna come rolling out of that 10 pt. buck's mouth.
Because Merchant xp is based upon customers, implementing a galaxy-wide bazaar would nearly annhialate this customer base for new players, that SAME customer base that comes from people having to go tent to tent, city to city to find what they're looking for. If new players have no customers, congratulations, you've just turned an entire profession into nothing more than an expensive hobby.

Merchant xp comes from how many vendors you can stuff in your basement (I put armoires on mine and name them 'gimp'). Has very little to do with customers. Anyone can be master merchant pretty quickly without selling anything - don't even need to be at the computer. And anyone trying to get merchant xp so they can trade it in at the village is probably still working on the first fs box. And they'll be working on it for the next 15 months, no matter how many customers they get.
