Thread: What happens when you give up Management?
I was wondering about that with hiring, if I gave it up what would happen to my cool looking vendors.
Your brain slowly begins to grow back.
Oh wait, you meant in the game?
Yeah I was wondering this myself. I have 3 vendors but will probably drop Hiring1 to free up some skill points. Will my most recently placed vendor poof? Or one at random? Or none? I have over 200 items for sale and really dont fell like unloading them all.

ROFLMFAOOMG!!!!!!!!!
You must work for the same company I do...
Search feature is a wonderfull thing, but I guess I will respond anyways since I am bored. When you drop Management or part of the Business line that allows you to create the vendor, you are still able to keep the vendor after you have dropped the neccesary skills. This is an exploit that could be fixed at any time. You are not supposed to be able to run vendors unless you have the skills to place them, just like you can't make wookie clothing anymore if you don't have the line to do so, or survey for a high range without the neccesary survey skills. All those lines, once dropped, return you to the previous level, Merchant is bugged and does not return you.
This bug could be fixed without notice, and you could in turn lose everything you had on that vendor.
It's really arguable whether it's an exploit or not. The skill mod is hiring, not keeping people employed, so my interpretation of that is that you can hire people when you have the skill, and not when you don't. Whereas, making wookiee clothing uses schematics which you get with a certain skill, and surveying uses skill mods to allow you to survey. You can still keep the wookiee clothing you made if you lose the skill.
Its not really arguable.. its an exploit and it is being used by thousands of artisans who got their vendors and sold back the skills. So now there are thousands of artisans with the same exact abilities as you have, except they didn't use up asingle skill pointto get it.
well, that's partially correct....
They did use skill points to get them, then they unlearned the skill and learned something else, and they will have to learn it again if they want to set up new vendors.
And actually, I know for a fact that it's not an exploit, and I'll tell you why. It used to be that you could trade vendors, so merchants would sell vendors to people without merchant skills, and those people set up vendors. Then, a patch came out that made vendors untradeable, but the people who had set them up before that happend could still use them. So, I don't think the devs intend forusing a vendor to require a skill, otherwise they would have eliminated those vendors. I mean, it may be a fine distinction, but I'm pretty sure I'm right about this, at least regarding the way the game is designed right now. That may change at some point, but that doesn't make it an exploit.
Well by definition, an exploit is getting something that you have not "earned" by exploiting the system. In my mind at least, if you sell back your merchant skills but keep the merchants, you have no longer earned them.. you got them for free. Any other part of this or any game where something like that happens it is considered a bug, and taking advantage of that bug is considered an exploit.
I find it very hard to believe that SOE intended for people to skill up in the merchant tree, get the rewards and then sell off the skills and keep the rewards... why not just let everyone have 6 vendors and do what they like with them without an entire skill line devoted to it? What did they intend the merchant profession to be.. a speed bump? I find that doubtful, if that was their intention it would hold true for all other classes as well. Skill up, get the abilities, sell them back and keep the abilities until you have mastered every class and can do it all.
What I'm trying to say is that having vendors is not a skill. I'll give you an example using another profession. If you're a master CH you can store multiple rancors. If you lose your CH skills, the rancors will still be on your datapad. You could skill your way up to Master CH, get some rancors, unlearn the skills, then sell the rancors. It would serve no real purpose, but it wouldn't be an exploit.
And I do think that vendors should not be tied to the merchant profession, because the merchant profession is retarded.
I think the developers intended the production and sale of products to involve more people than it does. There were initially supposed to be farming and mining professions too, but that didn't happen(because those professions didn't have enough to them, much as merchant doesn't), and now everyone can use harvesters.
An afterthought:
The perfect corrolation is pets. If I skill up in creature handling, go out and tame some graul maulers, then sell back the skills.. do I still get to use those graul maulers? By your argument I should be able to, they reside in my datapad, I earned them and should be able to still use them.. but I can not. I get the message "you lack the skills to contol this creature".
Vendors are no different, it is a bug that you do not lose the ability to have or control themthem when you release the skills. It should have been designed that if you release the skills you are no longer able to place items, pay maint or purchase off the vendors. The only remaining functionallity should be thatyou can retrieve your goods off them before they melt down from disrepair, until you drop back to the number and type of vendors you are permitted to have.
