Quick question for the experts... have seen some merchant signs with multiple lines on a sign, but not sure what to put into the structure name to make this happen... can someone help? Thanks...

Simply type something on Windows notepad with line breaks.

Copy it, and then Paste in game...

What I experience from in game notepad is you cannot actually use colors That's why I suggest again casual notepad comes with in your Microsoft Windows

Actually you can use colors in the notepad. In fact, it types the text out in the color you give it.

You just have to be aware of where the invisible codes are and how the cursor is used to select things for copy/paste because it's a little tricky.

I generally put them all in without the leading slash and then go back and add it before I'm ready to copy.

Think I got it, hadnt thought of using notepad in game, but with both responses it states to copy and paste, but with the CTRL key default settings, CTRL-C / CTRL-V doesnt work to well... How do I copy and paste in-game? I am sure this is a noob question, but one I cant seem to get a bead on for some reason - knowing the answer is going to make me feel silly...

They aren't mapped by default in the game.

You have to go into your options > controls > keymap

The ones you need to set are called Chat Edit Copy/Cut/Paste.

I've had a lot of problems trying to use /notepad in game. It likes to format itself instead of letting me type. Last night I tried cutting and pasting from Word and it worked so much better!

One of the tricks to is anticipating the trouble it will give you for the invisible color codes.

They're there and it sees and reacts to them, but doesn't let you see them.

When you put in a "\" it automatically assumes that the next 7 characters are meant to be part of the code so it hides them from you. If you start typing, your 8th character will become visible again.

This is where it gets tricky when it comes time to select text for copy/paste.

What I normally do is create a blank line above the text in question before I start typing.

Then I go to the line above and cursor right once.

This puts me at the very front of the next line. If you were to cursor right again, you'll be inside the invisible codes and won't see your cursor move but it IS moving through the characters in the code. That's why it's important to be sure that you're actually at the true beginning of the line.

Now that I'm at the true beginning, I will shift-cursor down (to select whole lines) until I get to the final line.

At this point, shift-end will jump me to the end of the line... but it doesn't quite make it to the end. It stops a few characters short.

Just shift-cursor right until you get to the actual end of the line.

Now you have the whole thing selected and can copy/paste.

If you had the foresight to leave a blank line AFTER the text you entered (I frequently forget), you could have instead done one more shift-cursor down and then shift-cursor left to bring yourself back to the end of the final line.

It took me a while to get the hang of it, but once I realized that it was dropping characters because of the color codes, I figured out how to work around that.

that was a very nice expaination. thanks.

i did try just choosing the colors in word pad, but the colors i chose did not make the transit. can that be done, ordo you have to use the code for the colors?

Here's one site:

http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/reference/color_codes/

Lots more available if you google something like "html color codes"
