Thread: Vendor's not Allowed in Private Buildings

Is there a good reason for this? It is a real annoyance as a member of a pa and a merchant/artisan that wants to have a vender in our pa and keep it private so we can provide deals and special items for pa memebers only. Without having to worry about other using it. I am sure almost every pa's artisans sell there items to pa members for cost. Is there a reason for private building to not be allowed to place a vendor? Or just another annoying characteristic of swg.

I don't like it either but the Devs don't want people to use vendors for storage...

I have not tested this workaround... maybe you should give it a shot...

Set the access fee to your house to 10,000,000 credits...

Change the entry list to GUILD:XXX

Where XXX is your guild's tag...

All your guild members can come and go and buy stuff at 1 cr a pop, but everyone else is going to have to pay 10,000,000 to get in...

I tried that Gallbearer, and only the admins were able to enter without getting hit up for the fee. Too many members to put on entry list also

Try Using the guild tag as an admins...

I.E.... The guild tag is PEX...

For an admin, type: GUILDEX

Then put nothing but the vendor in there?

Like I said this isn't tested by myself but might work... no guarantees. Hope it works... if not... let's all demand guild safes...

You can do that, but items in the Stock Room vanish forever after 72 hours or less.

Sir, it's quite possible that this game is not entirely stable.

"Not entirely stable." Well, I'm glad you're here to tell us these things. Chewie! Take the professor in the back and plug him into the patch server!

The main reason for this is that originally, items on vendors were supposed to show up in the bazaar. In fact, they did in beta. Unfortunately, people would put items up for sale on their vendor, then make their house private, and peopel who bought stuff from them through the bazaar were cheated out of their item (since they couldn't enter to pick it up).

I'm not sure whether or not they've given up on making that system work. I think it would be very cool if they could, so I'm not ready to ask them to change this yet.

Actually it was clearly stated by Holo several weeks ago that the reason was simply to reduce the use of vendors for storage. Nothing to do with the bazaar.

Putting the Insanely large entry fee works but you can't exempt people from it with the guild tag. You have to enter each PA member by name in the entry list to exempt them from the fee.

I have a rather lengthy macro set up for adding people to admin of my houses.

Simply use the following format:

/setpermission entry/admin playername;
/pause 1;
/setpermission entry/admin playername;
/pause 1;
/setpermission entry/admin playername;

I used to have it without the /pause command in there, but occaisionally some people would be skipped. The key is keeping up on the list... everytime you get an email about someone leaving or joining the guild, make sure you update their permissions on the house... especially when they leave... just think of someone leaving in spite and then emptying out your vendor at 1cr per item....

eto - maybe im just being a bit stupid - but why would you need a macro? surely once they are added they are added for ever ( or until you delete them). You dont have to redo permissions each time?

No you don't have to keep adding them but the interface for adding users to your entry list is a bit cumbersome and it only allows you to enter one at a time. So adding 25 people could take a while. Where doing it with a macro might be quicker.

Adding them one at a time after the guild is set up is probably not an issue doing it either way.

I'm referring to when you do it for the first time, unless you have a PA of like 10 people. Some PAs run 50-100 people, and that is definately better than doing it one at a time... Even if the Devs fixed it so that things are more standard... i.e., sometimes you can serparate people's names with a semi-colon ( to add/remove more than one person to a list, sometimes you can't.

I have to disagree. Holo said that it was to fix an exploit, where people were puting up items for sale, players were buying them (we have no idea from where)and then they go to the house and find they cannot get in to get the item. Most of us did not buy this because there is no way to buy an item from a vendor, unless you are in the house. My guess is that people were confused by the vendor interface of the owner where the region option is available. Then he said latter on that users were never meant to be able to have vendors in private houses. Then he brought up the storage issue. After further research he actually said that storage on vendors actually takes less database space than houses.
