HELL NO!
I don't want player spam... I have enough of that in hotmail.

well it could be easily disabled by any player so you would only get it if you wanted.

Only if the option to disable it was on by default and there was NO way to bypass it.
It's bad enough that everyone just turns off the auto-afk thing to keep their spam from being ignored.
Besides, mass mail just clogs up the servers.
I've gotta say, this is one enhancement that I wouldn't want.
I don't even like it when I get on someone's "mailing list" after I buy something from them.

Gang, this is not a bad idea. However, you need to put more pain into its implementation for it to be successful.
We need to explore more ways to advertise than Starport spamming. This is a logical one to consider in my opinion.

I agree that alternatives to the spamming needs to be found.
A galaxy wide gmail though might be too much. At first I thought it was cool. Then I got to thinking most folks might not like it or ignore it.
I think though that a merchant who maintains a list of customers and gmails them afterwards is a fine idea and example of marketing. Perhaps there might be a way to have the game compile a list of everyone that has bought something from a merchants vendor in the last 30 days and then allow the merchant to send out a gmail to them.

I would only be in support of this if there is an OPT-IN feature where you specifically have to request to receive these mails.
I will never support and OPT-OUT only option. These mails should be something you actively sign up for, perhaps checking a box on the vender screen that you want to receive mail.

I'm trying to imagine this...
I log in and havetons ofmails: vendor sales; rollovers, purchases, customer specialorders mails, manufacturing complete factory mails, guild mails, city mails, Special event invitations and sundry other city, merchant, guild type solicitations spam, personal mails... and some merchant/crafter spam already from being on "Customer Lists." I spend a couple hours a week already deleting mails. Mails average 500 hundred a week now. I've learned to not sort mail to multi-select delete. Locks up the game. When I have hundreds of mails, deleting even one at a time causes my FPS to drop from 30 to 3. My last /mailsave was 826 mails. I have to doone again today, then purge my mail. It's a royal pain.
Now if I imagine also getting vendor generated spam from every merchant's vendor I ever bought anything from...?

I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of "opt-in" mailing list type thing, but if something like that comes along, I think we should be able to have folder sorting options to allow for better gmail management instead of one big catch-all inbox.

I'd never read it. I log on and i have 100 emails or more to read (sales, factory messages, orders, vendor issues, death threats the normal stuff an armorsmith/merchant gets). I already dont read 90% of them no need to add any more.

I'm with the others on this being an opt-in system only. Since few would opt for it, I dont see what possible benefit it has. Personally, I'd like to see everyone deal with spammers by putting them on ignore and forgeting about them. Soon, half the galaxy would have them on ignore and every time they try to get a group or otherwise play the game, they'd get the hint that there is a price to be paid for ruining the game for others.
