For all the merchants out there who keep seeking a ray of hope that some day this will all be fixed, and for those non merchants who keep aruing against them:

Some guy on Ahazi spoke to TH and asked a bunch of questions which TH answered:

Q: Is there a plan to remove vendors from players who no longer have the merchant skills necessary to have them?

A: Yes, we are talking with the Merchant coorespondant and that is one of their main issues.

I saw that last night. I was surprised the question was even asked in the context it was asked and even more suprised that TH didn't give some off the wall answer.

As for players saying what about my business ...

I'm more surprised that TH answered questions at all. Why do they answer questions so easily at E3, yet when approached here, they are vague and evasive. I'm very happy the guy posted the questiosn and answers, it will keep the DEVs on their toes. You can't ptomise someone something so blatantly and never deliver. I hope all of what TH said gets done.

The whole point of E3 is answering questions about your new products. Most of the information TH was giving out was tidbits on Jump to Lightspeed. He just got tossed the merchant question in the mix.

From Merchant Skill Tree Description:

Vendors +1 : For each point of manage vendor, the player may place a vendor in the structure.

Doesn't say anywhere that you need the merchant skill to actually run it. I have a friend of mine with Merchant Skills that sells my armor for me though. I know its a huge pain for him when he has to restock 500+ items at a time.

There should be some way to allow Non-merchants to use a vendor. I'm sure for most of you your Merchant is your 2nd account, I can't afford 2 though.

There should also be some reason to make people keep Merchant instead of dropping Vendors and then dropping the skill.

Such as:

1.) Harvesting bonuses at Master?

2.) An ability to see what resources are on other planets (a skill similar to the interplanetary survey droid)?

3.) When doing the planetary search and galaxy search on the bazaar terminals, it lists private vendors also.

4.) No cap on the bazaar for selling items. (masters could charge more than 6k)?

5.) Selling more than 25+ items on the bazaar?

This has widely been acknowledged as the main issue for merchants since the game was launched in June 2003. If you are hoping that this is going to change sometime soon, I wouldn't bother holding your breath.

And what does it say that the main issue for an entire profession has been left unaddressed for 11 months and counting? I will leave you to come to your own conclusions.

From 19 Questions to TH on 4-22-2004

Merchant: Currently there is a lot of debate about the fact that there is no skill point check for managing vendors. Is it the intent of the development team that vendors operate normally even when owned by players who no longer have the Management skill required to place that vendor?

It was never intended for players to be able tokeep and manage vendors after surrendering the Management skill boxes used to acquire them. This is scheduled to be fixed in a future publish and we want to upgrade vendors also, but it’s a bit early to start talking about that.

No more debate. No more questions about intent..there is the answer to the intent and design. Its not meant to be this way and it will be changed.

I'm merchant on my primary account. I am a Master Droid Engineer, Master Artisan, Master Merchant, Novice Medic, Marksman 0401. This template is more than enough for me to make lotsa droids and other items to sell on my 6 vendors. I have plenty of lots to run my shop, run my factories and a few harvesters. My small amount of medical and pistols skills allows me to travel about without too muchworry on most planets. I may not be an Uber fighter, but I can defend myself well enough (at least to be able to run away)and heal myself. I can also join on hunts with guildmates if I have time.

I am a pretty much self sufficient. I don't PvP and I don't run around killing high end monsters. I wanted to be a droid engineer. That being said, as a DE, I obviously wanted to sell my items easily and make money, so, I am a merchant. It's not like merchant is excessive on skill points, or that you can't master merchant without master anything else. I'm a tripple master. The only thing I am not is a huge PvP PvE person because I chose to be a crafter. This game is not all just about combat, there is just as much if not more game content just for crafters.

I'm sure there are many master merchant/crafters out there who enjoy the game just fine without two accounts.

This is more than enough to craft and get me a T21 to shoot stuff with. People just seem to assume 2 accounts is a must to try a bit of everything and it's just NOT TRUE!

Have you tried the stimpack modules yet? I think you might be able to drop those medic skills. Depends on how much you fight I suppose, but you might be able to get away with it. Just hire a Doc to make the best StimA's and load it up.

I hope they fix this real soon. I get so tired of finding empty holo-grind vendors all over the place.
