Thread: Does registering on the planet map work?

I've sent several "bugs" and "tickets" to customer service about this, but of course, heard nothing, so I turn to you all.

I have registered my vendors many, many times to appear on the planet map and the morning after I register them, they are not on the map. Not until I run to the shop and actually "load" them do they appear on the map. Now, funny thing, others can go to my shop and browse the vendors but that won't make them appear on the map, only when I do it.

Couple things, the vendors are in a guild hall that I do not own. Also, there are other vendors there from players that I know no longer have any merchant skills. Could this be causing the problem? Or is the skill/profession broken?

Thanks!

hmmm thats interesting... I do know they do not appear on planetary map until someone passes within proximity of them and the vendors actually load up so to speak... but I personally do not have to go within range, any player who happens upon one of my shops will load them up and as a result they will now appear on planetary map from that point on til the next reset ...then it happens all over again ...so if only you trigger your vendors loading onto planet map i would say that is a bug .... ...something i have not personally experienced yet... you might want to post this question on your forum boards and ask other fellow merchants on your server if they also are having this issue... just an idea to see if is a server bug, or perhaps the location of your vendor ...maybe it is too close to a server boundary or something that causes it to glitch at times... I would suggest trying to have someone other than you... perhaps a couple different friends you know to go visit your vendor and then see if it appears on planet map ....if this does not work try moving your vendor in the guild hall to a diff spot in guild hall, a pain to do, but might also solve your problems... lastly I have noticed that vendors that are in small confined spaces like buildings etc and are really close to other vendors who are also planet advertising will appear in one big dot on planet map view.. so it is hard to tell who is listed and who is not visually on the map waypoints... so make sure to double check the listing on the right side of planet map in the appropriate category you registered your vendor under to see if it is listed there.... hope this helps

I'll have to give those suggestions a try. Thanks!

I'm still confused on soemthing though. Once the vendor has loaded and is showing on the map, it should show until a server reset, correct? Mine vanish from the planet map every night, so either there is a server reset every night, or there is a bug forcing the vendors to become un-registered.

Is there a server reset every night? I'm on Tempest.

Wow. I always thought there was, but that's weird. So then every morning I have to go and "load" my vendors to get them on the map.

Man..... that sucks.

well not you personally (unless like you said you are surely bugged) but yes a customer, friend, or yourself have to come within proximity of the vendor which loads them into view and also then puts them on the map... so if your vendor is in a high traffic area no worries... if it is someplace unique then it may not appear rt away since no one has stopped by yet ....

Well that's not so good. It means that until someone comes close to your vendor each day, you're essentially "dark" to the world.

In spite of these problems, does having your vendor on the Planetery Map help? Does it actually bring you more buyers, or is it still mostly people who know you from experience, trade forum ads/announcements, and/or referrals coming to your shop? Can you tell?

I've been debating spending the extra points to get this capability (12 points). I'd only do it if there is a definite advantage, otherwise I'd rather keep my merchant's marksman skills, for the times she needs to clear a safe passage to her harvesters.

Personally, I don't think it is worth it. It would be one thing if your vendors were registered on the planet map regardless of someone coming near by, but as it is, every single day I have to hope someone stumbles into my shop, which is askinga lot when you are a new merchant.

I'm very close to mastering, but after that I will most likely drop the whole profession and just use my one vendor. There are better things I could put those points toward.

What??? So that's the problem? Yikes! That is just too ridiculous. So I'm paying for the registry, but unless I walk by them after serverup each morning, they won't be on the map? Great! Really helps somebody on Talus get some business. Nice for people on the East Coast who work "normal" hours too. All day with no registry. Man, I hope this is a fixable bug and not an as-designed feature!

Thanx for the information, folks.

IMO it helps being on the planet map a great deal... yeah it is a pain to either stop by your own shop especially if you have several on different planets galaxy wide for them to appear on planet map, or rely on someone to pass by etc... look at it this way ....how many times have you gone out shopping for some goods be it armor, resources, a new droid, weapons, a vehicle ...etc... and used the planet map to see what places near where you were at the time, were advertising that they sold items you might be wanting to buy? I personally use it all the time....rarely do I listen to spamming in high traffic npc cities... i have found that these lead to empty holo grinding vendors most of the time... where as people who have registered vendors in my experience are more likely to have the vendors stocked with something i am interested in buying... hopefully after publish 10 there will be a huge drop in holo vendors hehe ( sorry empty vendors just bugs me to no end hehe) ...so if i ever needed to surrender anything under merchant to pick up something else ( like Shipwright later on) I would surrender Hiring before anything else... I only wished at Master Merchant we recieved an additional +1 or +2 vendors ....thats my 2 credits

Its in a grey area between a bug a design decision. The fact that the vendors don't load until someone comes near them is by design. This saves server resources and prevents the horrible load lag we used to have where the servers were sluggish for hours after a restart trying to load everything. Now they only load the interiors of houses on demand. The fact that the registration is handled by the vendor when it first loads is by design too that is how they get it to refresh. The fact that you have to do this every morning is just a bad side effect of the two decisions. I've asked about changing it but I don't get the idea they have any solutions for us on this yet.

The maintenance is a bit screwy at the moment but it is taken out all day. The vendor simulates the maintenance withdrawal all at once when it gets loaded. It does the same thing with the XP it is generating for you.

Bah, that is sooooo wrong. Paying a lot of credits for something that doesn't work all the time.

A RL comparison would be that the TV commericial will not be aired until the Advertising Manager is actually home - but you're paying for it to air every hour anyways.

Sheesh.
