Thread: Why Should People Who Don't Have Merchant Loose Their Venders, A Valid Arguement Why They Shouldn't
So, why fix it.It wasn't a game breaking bug and it never caused real issues for anyone.
Fact is, we did the exact same thing as all the other merchants did. We set up venders, we got xp, we took the time out to get the profession. It wasn't a free hand out, it took time to get, only difference is that we gave up the skills to modify them.

Make sense now?

For over a year, the venders whos owners don't have merchant situation has been going on. This system successfully worked for how long now, why try to fix it?
Because people are exploiting it. They stock sales items on the same vendors they use for storage and have zero merchant skills. The sales items get sold and the vendor remains empty or only contains there storage items and the vendor remains on the map. Its cloggin up the system and inconvienencing customers.
The non merchants were happy, the ones who did have merchant never complained, as it never really affected them.
Actually they have complained. You just never bothered to look on this forum until your nonqualified vendor is threatened with extinction.
So, why fix it.It wasn't a game breaking bug and it never caused real issues for anyone.
Yes it did. People are tired of driving all over the place looking at empty vendors or ones with just storage items on it. Everyone that was doing this was simply getting enough merchant skills to do this and then dropping merchant so they could be uber something-elses.
Granted some of you view this as an 'exploit.' I have justified why it is only a lack of coding, and not an exploit (giving a player advantage over another player, since anyone could do this).
You tried this in another thread and only justified why you should be able to have a merchant skill with no risk or cost to yourself.
Aside from that, why should it be fixed. It didn't affect any one person here who was merchant.
It devalues the profession as a whole. The requirement would make customers more confident to take that little added trip across the map because they would know that the vendor that is registered is a legit vendor and not someone's virtual basement.
It was great for anyone who was PvE or PvP,that we could place venders and not have to gimp our templates to keep them up.
You're coming to the merchant forum and making this statement which impies that merchant skills are a gimp? /puts on the asbestos suit...../ready flame position.
It was great for crafters, it allowed them a greater variety of what they could do with their skill points.
It still can be great for crafters as long as the limits are not ridiculously low.
So why fix it. No flames, as they just come from a lack of better arguements. Just opinions, thoughts, and justifications is whatI ask for.
Because SOE and the merchant profession are tired of those that lack the skills abusing the ability to have a legit tool to conduct business....a vendor.

So it makes it right that merchants can do the same storage trick, keep their venders empty or combine it with storage? It's not all done by people with out merchant.

What was the arguement? Oh it's not fair that they can have venders and sell stuff with out the skill, even though I could as well? It didn't create any issues really other than for people who pick at anything they can find to complain about.

Once again, keeping them operational costs money. It's not a free ride. We had to get the skills to place them, which once again, was not a free ride.

Most peopledon'tregister their 'basements.' They get the skills to place venders to sell items, drop it. There is no reason to master it or take up that line really. Once again, merchants with the skill can do the same thing.

/dodge. Merchant skills are horrible to have to have for a non crafting template. For PvE or PvP those 24 points to have ONE vender up can be devistating, no less to have 6 up.
It was great for crafters, it allowed them a greater variety of what they could do with their skill points.

The skill points to maintain 6 venders makes a very big dent on your overall number you are alotted.

First, I would like to thank you for giving your opinions, valid justifications, and not trying to flame. This did not directly cause any issues for people who still had merchant. I never found someone complain because I had a krayt loot shop open with out the skill. Why? Because they got what they wanted or needed, it didn't ruin their experience, and they would leave with what they wanted.

Once people are forced to expend skill points AND keep the skills this will reduce the possiblity that those vendors are used simply for storage. If you want to burn the skill points just so you can have a "basement" by all means knock yourself out. Just do everyone a favor and don't register it on the planetary map.
What was the arguement? Oh it's not fair that they can have venders and sell stuff with out the skill, even though I could as well?
No the customers complained so the "good" merchants listened to their customers and spoke up.
It didn't create any issues really other than for people who pick at anything they can find to complain about.
Isn't that why you're here?
Empty venders happen with master merchants too, not just the ones with out the skill.
It happens much less frequently, especially those that are dependent upon those vendors as part of their gameplay.
Once again, keeping them operational costs money. It's not a free ride. We had to get the skills to place them, which once again, was not a free ride.
It costs less than 2k for a week of vendor maintenance. Chump change. Yes but you gave up those skills to go do something else. It became a free ride.

People that bother to spend the extra time and points to get a "basement" also tend to have the temptation to also use it for extra income on junk that they could sell on the bazaar or go to the trade forums with. Having to actually keep merchant skills will DECREASE the likelihood that this practice will continue. I didn't say it would eliminate it. But the number of annoying vendors owned by people "looking for a free ride" will certainly decrease.

Then don't get them.

PvP yes. PvE NOT. You can still have a combat template that owns just about anything that you couldn't solo to begin with anyways. As for PvP, its not a money making endevour. People who PvP and want the abilities to have merchant skills are only looking for that "free ride" tofund for their PvP activities. Once again, no sympathy. You want to punch other players? Then go out and punch other players. You want others to fund your player-punching activities? Then buy another account.
The skill points to maintain 6 venders makes a very big dent on your overall number you are alotted.
Bingo!! No more free ride! No more MULTIPLE basements = more database space.

Thank YOU for accepting my bluntness. People tend to think my points as flames don't seem to understand that there is nothing personal intended in my opinions. I will occassionly "let some people have it with both barrels" for the sake of trying to lighten up the tension but its all done in fair play. None of my statements are meant for anyone to take personally. If you find them inflamatory then you are most certainly entitled to "shoot back" and I will not take it personally in return.
My position for the changes doesn't devalue your wishes to have a krayt loot shop. You can still have it. It will just cost you a little more. My position is that I don't see why the small price of owning such a shop (24 skill points) would be anymore inconvienent for you thanto make direct contracts with weaponsmiths that may be willing to possibly pay you even more money for you trouble of having to travel and offer it to their vendor. You'll find that most crafters who are out to make a successful business would be more than happy to compensate you generously for your trouble. You pocket the extra cash AND no longer have to worry about vendor maintenance.
