Thread: Merchant Stand on Credit Duping
I don't know how much this is affecting other servers, but on Bloodfin the credit duping in previous weeks has become ridiculous. There are rumors, none confirmed, that accounts have been banned and that the activity has and can be tracked. No word (that I've found) from the devs on this subject is disturbing.
I do believe that merchants as a class should take a strong position on this. It ruins the economy and, in a game with rules, is inherently unfair. Some will undoubtedly argue that merchants can only benefit by prices rising, but the inflation affects us all and will hit merchants who can't capitalize over-priced stock very hard. There are a dozen economic arguments against this kind of false inflation, but I hope that merchants will sign onto this thread because of the argument against cheating.
We would like the developers to let us know:
- That this type of exploit has been discovered and fixed,
- How many accounts were deleted by server,
- How long the duping exploit wasavailable,
- If they really could track this activity, how many credits were allowed into the economy of each server due to this exploit,
- And what do they feel are the most important immediate-term implications of this.
We would like to know this information for two reasons: 1. because further speculation to satisfy curiosity on the boards in the abscense of real information only exacerbates discontent and problems, and 2. so that we can be fully aware of the factors that affect the marketplace. A very complex economy has grown in this game, and commodities traders (in RL and in SWG) are only as effective as the information they have. And with merchants being the regulator on the economy by holding so much stock in inventory, we fully expect any "money sink" activities to be directed at us - and so deserve to be prepared.
Thank you.
Wow...Total silence on this.
Was I completely off base with this?
You might as well ask them for a free jedi slot
They won't resopnd on this thread

It isn't that people don't care about the issue... but take a realistic look at what you've asked for. If I told you 106 accounts were banned for duping, what does that really mean in terms of the game? That information is an interest item, and knowing it or not knowing it won't truely effect your business, or allow you to predict what the developers will do next. You might feel better for knowing, but that's about the limit to it.
The best active stance to take is to make sure to report duping whenever you come across it.
hehe, Yes, that's exactly what I want - to feel better about it. To know that something's been done.

Look you're not going to get an answer about this from Sony. I'm betting they won't be doing anything about this just like they didn't and are not doing anything about the resource Duping that is going on before and right now. Just look on the Bloodfin server for one example of resource duping, it's everywhere being advertised right out in the open on the server forums as auctions, sales etc.. Nothing is being done about it.
Back when the BIG Dupe happened they never did anything to the main people who were behind it, never did anything to the resources that were duped and then allowed all of them to be sold and duped over and over again. How do you think there were so many Master Armorsmiths so fast after the Big Dupe? How do you think there was so much Composite Armor after the Big Dupe? Lots of Berylus (sp) copper was Duped and sold 100's of 1000's of units of that was duped and sold and is still being sold.
All of that yet Sony complains that the economy is out of Whack. You think? Well no kidding, ROFL! You cannot allow that type of thing to happen and do nothing about it and then think the economy is going to be ok. They didn't ban the players, they didn't remove the resources or the credits. In fact they didn't do one **edit** thing about it.
I know a few of the players that were involved with the original Dupe that are having a HUGE sale on their vendors right now with a lot of the original Duped Resources and some other stuff. Difference is that instead of selling the original Duped Resources for the 1, 2 or 3 CPU that they sold them for back then they are selling them for anywhere between 20 - 100CPU now! Incredible how SONY allows this stuff to go on right under their noses.
It's far too late now for Sony to really do anything about all of this, how could they do anything to a player who started after the BIG DUPE and bought some of the Duped Resources for his own use? These Duped resources have been washed so many times now that it's probably impossible to trace them.
I say this is just another typical Raph Koster game full of Bugs, Dupes and Cheats just like UO was infamous for. Enough Said!
Mrbledsoe Saidso
It would help us all if Sony did (1).
I fail to see the benefit to us for any of the rest.
I really didn't want this to turn into a rant thread, but I was hoping to bring the merchant community together as a whole against duping. The things asked for in my original post really won't "do" anything about the issue - but will let those of us who choose to play the game honestly know for sure that SOE is interested in and capable of enforcing the rules.
Yes, what I want is to feel better about this issue. That is precisely why I originally asked for specific information. Another "We know about it and are taking action" answer simply won't satisfy. The specific information showing us that SOE knows about and has the power to do something will satisfy my need for assurance. The Assurance Ineed is to knowthat I'm notrestricting my potential to begood at the game by following the rules.
Thanx Combat101,
I was scrolling down this thread to ask the same thing. What in Hades is "Duping"???
Ahh, gotcha.............not right.

I have no idea how it's done, but "Duping" is the process of manipulating the game in some way to duplicate an item or amount of credits. Copying or counterfieting could also be substituted.
Yes, and I guess it's short for duplicating.
