Thread: DEVS PLS-1 Million Access Mistake

First off let me silence all those who will say that this was my fault for not paying attention. But, after spending all day running into vender houses with merchants and there 1cr/XP structure locks, it became redundant and automatic.

The situation is, I entered a player city looking for a resource vender. Having not found what I was looking for, I was ready to leave. As I zipped by on my speeder I saw a guild hall near the Merchant tents and mistaken the name to say XXXMall, as opposed to XXXHall. Stopping to take a quick look, I was bounced out by the structure permission lock, and again as I had done all day clicked the "OK" automatically. Then much to my disappointment, and too late, saw the 1,000,000cr fee. I was sick, as it took me two months of crafting to get those credits. At first I was angry at myself for not looking, then outraged it could happen at all.

I have tried to contact the owner of the structure, but fear this is a dead end, and have lost those credits. Only time will tell if this was a trap for well off characters or just an attempt to keep others from entering the hall. I am hoping for the later and that the owner is an honorable person.

At the very least I wanted to post this, so that others that may have fallen into the same situation could state their case. The solution should be simple, limit the amount to 3 digits or only from the cash in inventory. Not many of us carry a million credits on us.

This may seem trivial to some , but ws not to me.

As you cannot put a vendor in a private structure, many guilds use this method to prevent people from accessing a vendor they may have in the guildhall with items for sale at discounted prices for the guildmates. You set an access fee, then add all the guildies to the access list and they don't have to pay the fee. If someone comes across it and pays the fee, then I guess they are welcome to whatever is on the vendor.

I'm sorry to see this happen to you, but regretfuly, it's completely legit and you clicked OK. It's really no different than a person deleting an object or /tipping the wrong amount to someone or even the wrong person, the DEVs will not do anything about it except tell you to pay attention to the system messages. Again, sorry for your loss.

wow that sucks...was there at least anything cool to look at inside? I agree with the last poster in that this is something that the Devs, or really the CSRs, will not resolve for you. Keep trying the PA leader though, I imagine if all they are trying to do is keep people out of the PA so as not to buy stuff off their vendors then they might refund you the money. The fact that they chose 1,000,000 though rather than 999,999,999 seems more like they were expecting someone to make this mistake. In which case I would not expect to see your money again. Either way you have probably lost that money. I wouldnt get stressed about it though, we have all made stupid typing errors dumping 100k's of credits into harvesters, tipping way too much, or other mis types. I have never lost a million in one fell swoop, but I have probably lost a lot more over the course of the game from such errors. Again I am sorry, but keep the faith.

Wasn't the access fee capped to 50K some time ago to prevent just this sort of thing from happening?

I'm not sure about the access methods for guild halls..but I do believe you can set them to be only accessible to guild members..

I agree the 999,999,999 would have been a more believable choice if that was there reason.

This happened to me once on Tempest, I believe the fee was 50k then. Yes I was very pissed, and completely understand how you feel.

Luckily I happened to know the head of the guild whose hall I walked into, so I emailed him and asked for help. It took a while to sort it out, but I got my credits back, with an apology. The guild got rid of the big entrance fee after that.

I do agree there should be better alerts if big fees like that are allowed. Maybe a confirmation window like what we get when we try to destroy structures. It sure would stop these kinds of heartaches from occuring.

Yes I'm pretty sure it was.. Unless that has changed it should probably be reported, because as far as I am aware the cap is 50k..

well you can set any structure to allow access to only those people you put on admin and access list. But to have a vendor the structure must be public, so having the high access fee would limit whowould want togo in there. Im pretty sure that if you are on the access list for a structure then the access fee does not apply. I personally think they should put more measures in to prevent stuff like this from happening, either cap access fees, or put more checks in the game to make people aware. Unfortunately, this is probably not a widespread enough problem for the DEVs to even care about.

as to making it a cash on person requirement, that is not a good solution. Many people do carry all/almost all their cash on their person. I do because there is almost no benefit of keeping funds in the bank except the ability to banktip. And that is a result of no corpse runs.

Actually, you SHOULD keep all your money on you, if you sell off of vendors, unless you write down your balance every time you login/logout.

I have had tons of problems in the past with vendor sales not paying (or paying 12, 24, or 36 hours later), so I just keep everything on me in cash so when I log in I can count my vendor sales and compare it to my bank balance.

It's gotten better now, but it makes for a much cleaner way of tracking your business. The bank is your temporary business account, you cash your true wealth. With no corpse runs any more, there is no reason to keep money in the bank as far as security.

The Access Fee is capped at 50k now but if you had one in before they make that change it wasn't reset.

So If a building is as old as dirt, any knew changes would not effect it.....Meaning that 90% of the structures still can have the outlandish entry fees.

Well I guess it is the same as Pre-nerf objects in the game....Theses are just pre-nerf buildings..
