Yes. The only merchant xp you don't get when placing a vendor in a firends house is xp gained from the paid access fee. But that is not enough to worry about. You will get most of your merchant xp from just having vendors out. Heck, I wouldn't have made even 1 level of any merchant if all my merchant xp came from someone viewing my stock/buying an item.

Has this been verified? There was a post oafter the big admin fix that said that the owner of the house was getting the merchant experience. Has someone tested this?

This is a simple question, so pardon my ignorance. CanIget admin rights to some else's home (not ownership) and place a Vendor there? Or is this restricted to owner only? I was wondering about having vendors in more than 10 deeded structures.

Thanks,
-Rei

Yes indeed you can. You only need admin long enough to drop the vendor though. After that they can remove you as admin and you can manage your vendor as you would in your own structure.

What skill level is needed to get vendor sign location viewableon the control M function. In other words, how can people see my vendor location when they have control M activated when they are flying or walking by my shop?

Sorry just turned novice last night.

I am trying to help sell items for some of my RW friends and was wondering how more experienced merchants handle selling items for friends?

Problems I see:

  • When selling resources from a single vendor you can't tell anything other than "Iron" sold and it's price. How do you handle resources from multiple people?

  • Money. Do you just purchase the item from your friends and then sell the items or do you get the items and then tip them back the money?

I'm sure there are other problems I haven't run into yet, so I'm asking for advise from the senior merchants about the above problems and any other common problems you have seen.

Thanks in advance,

Walahalla

Unfortunately, there are no in-game tools for easily managing sales for other people.

Some of the easiest options for dealing with your first point are to break them up into different vendors (bob's resources, sally's resources) or keeping track of stacks by quantity even though this would mean you could never use identical size stacks (bob's iron = 4999, sally's iron = 5001)

As for how you get paid, that's up to you.

If you're confident in your ability to re-sell the items, you can pay them up front. If they trust you, they can give you the item and you can pay them when it sells.

I'm sure that other people have more ideas than just this, tho.

One of the desired features for merchant is the in-game ability to manage consignment sales.

It remains to be seen if this will ever become a reality, though.

The method I use requires trust between both myself and my friend.

I manage a separate vendor for him.

He offers the item to the vendor for 1cr and tells me how much he wants for it.

I put the item up for sale and when it sells, I send him the email notification.

He keeps track of how much he sold and periodically offers a junk item to the vendor for the amount I owe him.

I buy the junk item and he gets paid.

He trusts me not to steal his items and I trust him do do the proper math and not cheat me in return.

However, this is not a system that is likely to work between two random in-game people that don't know each other. That's why we need some sort of built in support.

When we have it, we will become empowerd to be TRUE merchants rather than just crafters/looters with vendors to sell our own stuff.

At this time, the style of your vendor is unaffected if you drop the skill that let you have it.

That's not to say that this won't be changed in the future, tho.

If they do, I'm out of here. I quit the last time they nerfed the merchant tree, although I could actually kinda see their point. I very nearly quit again last month when they introduced the new vendor search to suchwidespread acclaim. I let a friend talk me into staying.

But after obliterating the advertising tree without refunding the points,I'm no longer fooling around -- one more nerf of near that scale and it's bye-bye SWG. I play it because it's got the best crafting and economy for an MMORPG. Destroy it and there's no point in my paying them.
