Thread: Today I was convinced that vendors need restrictions in the business line
I've seen this discussed before -- and I tend to agree.
The reasonable fix I saw suggested by someone on this board (don't remember who it was specifically) was moving all the "expense" related items - like reduced bazaar fees and such - to the business line under artisan, with vendors only available to merchants.
But the counterargument is --that hurts the casual artisanAND the master craftsmen. Because it might be that the original intentWAS for aweaponsmith to be able to sell his items via his personal vendor without merchant skill training.
A big issue, this.
Here we go again.
How about make merchant worth something rather than bring out the nerf stick
Is it going to warm your heart somehow to see them saying "I'm going to novice merchant but you'll never see my shop on the planetary map because the rest of merchant isn't worth the points."?
The problem is not that people can get a merchant in the business line.
The problem is that other than vendors, the rest of the merchant class is a waste of points.
I was cruising the kettemoor boards and found a thread that was interesting to me because my shop has started to sell weapons. Then as I was reading through it I came across this message
in my .sig
and yeah, I'm not on the global map, I wont ever bother getting the merchant class, its a total waste of skillpoints to me..

It's the place to be, for melee weaponry!
This person is selling stuff from a personal vendor, intends to make alot of credits, but the merchant class is a waste of skill points to him because the only nesseccary perk that you get from it is obtained at business 3.
I might add that before reading this I contacted this player to try and organise buying stock in bulk for resale, he was not at all interested, although that is nothing against him just that our class is rendered un-nesseccary by business 3.

I would love to make the merchant made worth it, in fact I do have some idea's which I will pos as soon as I get the time to write them all down. Another thing is though, I never said get rid of vendors from business, what I would do is move it upto business 4 and make it have a limit to the price of what you can sell. As it is you are getting a fully powered vendor before you come a merchant, a similar thing was happening with the brawler and TKA with vibro knuckles, now they solved this by putting the knuckles in the TKA line, I am not asking to even be that extreme.

So you are saying the only thing worth anything it the merchant profession is something you get at business 3. That is funny.
Vendors within the Artisan tree need to be restricted or removed to make Merchant a viable profession. No one needs Merchants to sell their wares since they can do it on their own.
Take the bazaar fee reduction and put it at the Business III spot and put a Vendor at Business IV but limit the sales price to 5k credits.
This will allow beginning advanced crafters to sell their beginning wares themselves, but require them to either have or use someone that has the Merchant profession.
Give us something else to replace the fee reduction.
Exploiters should not be publicly banned.........they should be disemboweled and hung from an overpass as a warning to others
I agree... Right now, unless you have 6 small houses in different cities on different planets, what's the purpose in having more than ONE vendor in the first place?.... I know I have enough trouble keeping my lounge stocked and paid for as it is. And if I were going to break it down into several shops the most I could have is 5, based on lots! So what good is the extra vendor?
My comments on the REDUCED structure operating costs... If I take those skill points and put em in a combat class I could make a billion times as much as I save on my structures by doing destroy missions.
None of it is worth while... Aside from possibly being the stepping stone to politician I can't justify the skill points in merchant! And I'm acually making some money at it... Not a lot but some...

Logically separating items. It makes it a lot easier for customers to find things if they aren't all lumped on a single vendor. In addition, Advertising 3 can be applied separately to each vendor. This means that you can place them in different categories (although I saw someone asking for this to be nerfed elsewhere on this board, and instead have the shop itself by under up to three of the Vendor categories).
I actually rent out one of my extra vendors to my brother. He can't directly do anything with it, butI have Global Advertising turned on for it. Obviously, the person you're renting it to has to trust you implicitly, since you must be on the Admin List to place a vendor.

There is sorting materials. There's selling more than one type of item.
But really, I think many people asking this are missing the point of merchant. Merchant is for people who do have 6 houses on different cities on different planets. Having merchant as a class is to add tools for the big time merchant, not to run a quickie mart.
If your horizons don't go past a little shop, then probably you don't need to go into the merchant line. I'm sort of confused about why that would be a problem. If there are lines I don't have to take all the way I celebrate, I don't mourn -- means more points to spend on something else!
I want to move the bulky to bus IV, move bazzar fees to Bus III and set a limit on the Bulky to 4000 credits. That way there is a real reason to go inot the merchant line.
I know you do not agree Numtini, I am saving you the post.

Is it really necessary for you to personally attack me?
Not this old chestnut again :-(
As a master Artisan (and Novice Merchant with Advertising 2) I dont feel the Business line gives me enough as it is compared to the other 2 lines the use crafting xp
Access fees - dont use them, it hard enough getting people to my shop
Premium auctions - dont work
'Coke machine' vendor - ok now I've actually got something I can use, even if its ugly as hell
Droid vendor or Bazaar vendor - nice but was it worth the 6k xp?
Your going to meet some really stiff opposition geting the vendor removed from the Artisan line (you might have more luck just moving it to Bus IV) unless/until the Business line gives artisans some decent bonuses, at the moment the only people who take it are
Those planning on an Elite crafting profession and who either dont want to use a middle man, dont know about the middle mad or just want to run their own shop
Those planning on Master Artisan who just dont have any choice (put it this way I'd be real miffed if you made my Business line worth less even though I am also a Merchant)
Those planning on becoming a Merchant (I personally believe this is the minority)
The only other thing you guys seem to forget is the huge maint fees a Bus line vendor comes with. I dont know how some Elite crafters can be making any money if they are keeping a large stock of expensive items on the Business line vendors - perhaps there are much less of these people than you think?
Not a personal attack dear, a statment of fact...
I did not call you a name, nor did I say you were wrong, I was just tring to to do issave us all the pain of havening to read your comment after every post about this subject.
You have made many coments that have made it clear to me, and everyone else who reads this board on that you are not a merchant, you are a taylor. You have made many statments questioning and belittling the class as a whole. You have gone on to other boards and tried to insite an uprising, and it has failed. Some of your very comments on this thread lead me to belive that your only goal is to protect your intrests and not the intrest of the merchant class as a whole.
We all know where you stand on this. I tire of you taking a post and turning it into pissing match.
I am the Merchant Correspondant, I work for those that are merchants, or working to become one.
