You will likely be buying for meds, as a 12 point doctor can make meds which are about twice as good as you can possibly make, so organic chemistry is not that useful. I would say that getting pharmacology 4 is the best, followed by a blend of first aid and diagnostics.
You can get a better feel for what is good and not by looking in the FAQ.

. . .who just took on novice medic to be able to treat my wounds while on a hunt or if I get into any armed confrontations, etc. Just wondering what would be most neneficial on the Medic tree, asI don't want to be a Master Medic(yet). I'm looking at First Aid I-IV, bur then Organic Chemistry I-IV also looks beneficial. Should I go for both strings or just one or the other? Thanks for any input in advance.

I'm of the opinion that 0040 medic (using 800 rated stim D's) is better than 4000 medic (using 400 rated stim B's and 75 injury treatment, I think). If nothing else, more consistent, albeit more expensive.

Don't forget, First Aid gives you /firstaid and /quickheal. While quick heal isn't that useful to most, /firstaid stops bleeds. Very handy when fighting Rancor that like to mind bleed you.

If you don't want to be a Master Medic, then:
- Best choice is 4040 (excellent heals while using D stims).
- Next best is 4030 (great heals while usingC stims).
- Next best is 4000 (good heals while usingB stims).
- Next best is 2000 (heal bleeds).
