Can anybody just give me a quick run down of what the hell I'm doin here? I've got skills in fighting stuff, but have never crafted anything or tried healing anybody... I dont know where to begin.

I figure I'll get Novice Medic and then start healing myself/others by use of abilities?

Sadly, you will get no experience healing yourself.

Starting out is a very difficult thing to do. There's so many things you need to train, do. Making your own healing packs is the best bet for starting out. You will need to survey for the supplies, or buy them off other players. This is an artisan skill, so it might be worth your while to train as a Novice Artisan. Get samples of organic material and inorganic material. You will need 8 units of each to make a Stimpack A, which is your most basic heal. Each stim has at least 10 heals in it. Make a bunch of these and you should be good to start healing.

Once you have a backpack full of stims, you'll need to start working on your healing tree. First Aid, DIagnostics, and Pharmacology all share the same medical experience. You gain this experience by healing others. Once you have completed one of the skills, you'll have to pick which one to train. First Aid is your all around medic healing. You get some new heals as this goes up. (/quickheal at level 4). Diagnostics is the speed at which you can heal. Pharmacology improves your overall heal numbers.

For gaining experince you have three options:

  1. Healing wounds in the medical center. This is the easiest one, although it's the slowest. You can heal wounds without a stimpack or wound pack by using the command: /tendwound followed by "action" or "health".

  2. Take all your stims to the cantina and start healing the dancers and musicians. Ask to be invited into the entertainer group, and heal them up as their action bars get low. This is the fastest way to get experience, but you'll have to use all your stims on them.

  3. Go out with mission and hunting parties, or heal folks just outside of town. This is fun because you can gain some credits on the destroy missions, you can meet new folks, and you can get good experience.

Don't give up on your medic skill tree. It's very difficult to build it up, but totally worth it once you do.

Hi,

Get a Flora Survey Tool, a Chemical Survey Tool, and look for inorganics and organics. Then get a General Crafting Device, and make stimpacks and wound packs. Heal people in the medical centers, in the field, and in the Cantina.

That will get you started.
