Thread: Medics And Factions
Aspeoplepick sides in the ongoing political struggle, I'm having a very difficult time as a medic. I've read a few posts that allude to TEF and how it preventsme from healing someone with a declared political stance contrary to your own for a short period of time (10 minutes?) after they engage in combat. However, I've got a few problems with that:
- Medics/Doctors should never be prevented from healing someone. I could understand if the message received was a warning but it should allow me to make a decision. Do I want to heal this person or not?
- If I choose to heal a person in an opposing faction I should earn faction points one way or another. It seems kind of silly that the Rebellion or Empire would have a trained medic deliver pizza to earn enough points to join their cause.
The most logical solution is to allow medicsto earn faction pointsby healing. It seems to make sense. Ifyou choose to work out of a public medical center and treat whoever walks in,your faction standing should move randomly one way or another depending on your customers. If youbecome a rebel orsupport the empire youshould continue to gainthose types of faction points.
It seems, as a medic, I have no way to advance in the Empire or Rebellionwithout becoming a soldier or messenger. Am I missing something?

Healing to get faction points is SOOOOOOO easily exploitable that its not even funny...
Not only would you get faction points for going on faction destroys, but also healing ur grp mates going on the missions with you?
Everyone would get novice med and then run off into a corner somewhere with overt buddies and just hunt normally and get faction xp? makes no sense...
I like the way you can heal faction now...in fact I fought a fellow rebel medic in theed last night won the fight killed him..he came out of the clone center with 1/2 black HAMs but was covert without TEF and I healed him to full HAMs while shooting the breeze about the fight was pretty cool...
Faction healing as it is is fine...
I do think that if u are neutral and you want to heal overt you should get teh option to, but doing so will make u TEF you...similar to coverts healing overts...
Thanks for the reply.
I see your point about potentially doubling faction point by healing while doing a faction based mission. But, couldn't that be minimized by awarding less point than those obtained fighting or making deliveries? Receiving one faction point for every50 (100? 200?) points healed makes sense to me.
And, I would argue that a medic who goes on a mission should earn more faction points than one who stays in a medical center. You're doing you job (healing) and putting your life on the line for the rebel or imperial cause.
I just don't see how a pure medic is going to get anywhere in the rebel or imperial ranks.
Medics can easily make faction points..they can go on missions or raids or go to the battlegrounds...besides just going on imp destroys and being in the grp and not fighting and just healing will give you faction points once the target is destroyed
Even minimizing faction points on healing would be unfair..
getting any faction points for healingwould be complete unfair.
Other classes would complain that medics get faction points for using their skills so, why dont we get extra faction points for shooting rebels...yadda yadda...even at 1 faction point ever 200 points healed = 8 faction points a stim c for me (800+ health and action) thats almost 1 delivery mission...
"Medics can easily make faction points..they can go on...raids or go to the battlegrounds..."
Heh...If I'm busy DBing, I'm not doing my job as a Doc. Sometimes the group is nice and saves me a DB for revenge, but honestly, it's such little faction I'd rather be healing people up or buffing to make the raid run better. The payoff: raids are incredible medical exp. And so much fun!
Once you get past the initial 200, faction really isn't that bad. Destroy missions rock, one of my favorite parts of the game (after PvP =) Under the Covert/Overt/TEF system, this is about as good as it gets while protecting against exploits. I wish we got faction for healing on raids, but as Elenora said it's just too exploitable. It's kind of like when we talk about having to do delivery or destroy missions to make money. That's not our profession either, but it's the only way.
