Ok first off I haven't played SWG since the 1st month it came out so I am pretty much a complete newbie. Here is where I am having problems. I want to be able to heal my own wounds so I picked up novice marksman, medic, scout. Can use pistols harvest organic material off animals but I can't figure out how to get the inorganic material needed to craft. I read the medic guide and after that I purchased a 'mineral harvester' but for some reason no matter how far out from town I am it won't allow me to place it. Anyone have any tips on gathering their own inorganic material?
edit: Ok scratch that I wasn't far enough outside of town was finnaly able to place it. I put a few credits in to keep it going for awhile but I am now unsure about what type of inorganic to use. Will any kind work? And do you purchase power from artisans or is there another way to get it? Hum maybe I should jump over to the artisan boards. SWG seems harder to learn how to play than most other mmo's I have played including eve online LOL.

Inorganics is anything that isn't alive or from living thing, which is Metal, Fiberplast, Petrochemical, Radioactive, low grade ore, and so forth.
Organics that can be used can be hides, bone, meat, eggs, plants and milk to name a few resources.
The easiest way to get inorganics would be first trying the local bazaar for some scrap metal that might be available, if not, you can train for artisan and survey/sample the materials required. Harvester building require both power and money to run, and only be placed outside 1Km distance from the NPC cities. You can purchase power from other players and their vendors, which can often be expensive for new players, or you can use Wind turbines to create power. Again you would need to have Artisan survey to assist the best placement for collecting power.
hope this helps

It helped a lot thanks! I have a harvester setup to gather organic, inorganic, and power (wind). It cost a chunk to get setup and going but now that it is going it won't be too bad just have to empty it and feed it credits every few days inbetween crafting healing and such. Blasting stuff in space also seems to be nice cash flow that is helping me get off the ground. The only problem I am having now is I have Organic Chem2 now but for some reason the Stim B's are not showing up in my general crafting tool (even when standing by a food/chem public toolthingy).
Unsure exactly where I want to go atm but having fun so far. Mostly wanted to be decent at pistols (marksman) healing myself up (medic). Medic doesn't look like its the best solo/money making prof untill you get to the seconday trees like Bio Eng? Bio Eng sounds kind of fun in that if I understand it right you can clone animals to sell as pets and such?

You need a food and chemical crafting tool to make stimpack B's. A general crafting tool won't cut it. You can find all of the info you need from the draft schematics in your datapad. Furthermore, you will also need to use a food and chemical crafting tool to make chemical release duration mechanisms, which are a required component in stimpack B's.
