Thread: combat medic or doctor, which path to choose

For those whoever got that high in the beta, would would you choose? I've been wondering. Is a combat medic sort of like a pal character in EQ and a doctor more like a pure cleric? I was wondering this because I have a strange impresion that being a doctor basically ties you to the med center?

Combat medic has decent ranged healing, decent AOE healing, and poisons. But the healing is not much better than master Medic, and the poisons don't do much at the moment.


Doctor is pretty much the same stuff as Medic, only much more powerful. Huge amounts of poolhealing, better healing of secondary stats, poison and disease healing, etc. Actually Doctor does have 2 cool unique features, the ability to revive another player from death (not just incapacitation, but actual death) and also the ability to buff certain stats.


So it is kind of a personal preference. I have seen both out in the field, but Doctor would be much more useful than a CM at a med center.

Yes, Doctors are definitely no slouches in combat. They heal massive damage, can make buffs, and can revive players. I'll be going Combat Medic but you can choose either without worrying about being tied to the med center.

thanks for clearing that up. I sort of wanted to stay a healer and more of a support character haha. great. I was thinking of doing a pistoleer, doctor combo. But maybe later in bigger groups taking on crazy mobs, they'll need more healing rather than an extra person with a blaster.

Im temped to go for both doctor and combat medic... That would be the most uber healer around.

I'm betting a lot of the people who LOVED their clerics in Everquest will be doing both CM and Doctor. For the people who love to heal, that's the end all of all healing in this game.

Be careful about mastering both though. I did it in beta and I had to end up giving artisan which sucked but I did not care because beta was ending. If you master both it gives you enough skill points to master one weapon line in marksman besides what is needed for the medical skills.

If you Mastered both Combat Medic and Doctor would you be able to surrender all of your Medic skills to get back the points (Learning points not the Exp).


Also if you could do this would you need to keep the Organic Chemistry line to make components for the higher level Stims and Med Packs, or are the self sufficient?


If you could dump all that stuff you would be able to Master both as well as get the Survey skill, some combat and a little Scouting. You would be a pretty self sufficient Healing Machine with all that stuff.

No, you can't surrender your medic skills if you become a doctor or medic. You can never surrender any skills that are prerequisites for skills you're using.
