Thread: This char has no wounds/damage you can heal?

Hi,

I'm very very new at the medical profession. I started my first char tonight and immediately went Artisan/Medic.

Once I got enough resource to make a few stimpacks, I headed for the nearest medical center. And this is where the confusion starts.

First of all, I see characters coming in with all 3 bars quite low, moaning in pain and begging for a heal. Out of 5 or 6 I saw tonight, there is only 1 I could heal. What I try to do is select the char and use the radial to heal the damage.

The 4 or 5 remaining ones, the heal option never appears. I've also tried placing the stimpack on my QB, selecting the char and using the hotkey but I get the "XYZ has no damage you can heal" message.

Can anyone explain this? I tried relogging to make sure it wasn't a glitch but I still could heal no one. I'm confused.

Also, I'm a bit confused by the macros that were placed on my QB when I became a novice medic. What exactly is the difference and use of /tenddamage, /healdamage, /tendwounds, /healwounds (if I remember the macro commands correctly)?

Also, one of the patients came in and asked if anyone could start bleeding. Can I do that as a novice medic?

Apologies for the many questions but I'd really appreciate some help on those.

Many thanks,

Wendelius

Were the empty part of their bars BLACK (wounds) or WHITE (damage)?

Damage = (white bar) temporary damage that can be healed with stimpacks(/healdamage , /tenddamage) or by waiting around

Wounds = (black bar) semi-permanent damage that can be healed with wound medpacks (/healwound , /tendwound) or by waiting around for a million years in a medical center (Mind wounds can only be healed by entertainers)

/healdamage = Uses your available medicine to heal damage. If you have no medicine, it no workey.

/healwound = Uses your available wound medicine to heal wounds. No wound medicine, no workey.

/tenddamage = Cures damage without medicine, but gives you Mind Wounds

/tendwound = Cures wounds without medicine, but gives you Mind Wounds

Hello Ackai,

Thanks a a million for your reply! That makes things a lot clearer. Most of the patients there had black on the right of their bars and the one I healed had white. So I need to start making woundpacks in addition to stimpacks.

Thanks also for giving me the meaning of those macros.

Looks like I should have stayed at medical school longer.

Yes! That would be sweet! They should have medical school.

In fact, they should have schools for different professions that go over some of the finer points of each school. I'm betting they could figure out a way to make player-run schools. It would just add another awesome element to the game. Maybe we could earn apprenticeship experience that way. ::shrug::

I love the idea of profession schools. As you said, it would give a good place to learn the finer points of a profession and you would know where to go to find other players who could teach you a skill.

Still, medics at least can learn by messing up a few patients until they learn to treat them correctly. It's not like there is any shortage of patients anyway.

One more question if I can: I can craft "Stimpaks A" but no wound kits. Any idea what I need to do to gain that schematic? Wounds are obviously more important to treat than simple damage. Using /tendwound is quite exhausting for my poor medic. Good thing the cantina isn't too far.

You need Organic Chemistry I to craft medpacks that can heal wounds.

Note however that it's only slightly less taxing than /tending, and least with the A packs

Thanks again, Ackai. I'm off to learn Organic Chemistry I and migrate some of my stats.

No problem. If you're ever on Correlia (server Neritus) look me up.

MIND is definitely the most important thing for a medic to have, at least at early levels. If you become a combat medic with some really good meds, I can see an advantage to being faster/stronger or at least more balanced, but at earlyish levels it's good to start out with a lot of mind.
