Thread: Firdt Aid 1 or Diagnostics 1 ?
Diag 1 only reduces the amont of time you have to wait before you can do another heal or tend on someone, it doesn't affect your regen rate, as Vortexla stated. (And he should know, as he's probably one of the most experienced Medics/Doctors around.)
First Aid 1 allows you to heal more wounds/damage each time you do a heal.
At the lower levels for those intersted in advancing their medicals skills I find taht the reduction in time for Diag isn't very much. So while technically it could be argued that being able to heal more often provides more opportunities to getr XP, I find that I prefer getting greater XP per heal by improving First Aid in preference over Diag. I do try to keep them around the same level, though. I also don't bother improving Pharmocology until I hit OC3, or close to it, as it makes little difference until then. Just my opinion on the matter, though. Other medics may have a different experience for methods of improving thier skills.
If your Pharm was high but your Orgo wasn't, you could still buy advanced meds and use them, thus getting better results/xp right? But I see what you are saying, you need Orgo to master Medic, so you might as well work on it as you go along and keep the skills roughly equal. That way you spend your creds on supplies to make meds and Orgo xp, rather than on meds.
I was a brawler dancer in beta, so this medic path is new to me. ![]()
That's true. I was pretty much explaining it from teh point of view for someone interested in mastering medic, possibly to go on to Doctor or COmbat Medic.
The other resons for being in the skill tree might be to strictly go up Organic Chemistry to get to Bio-Engineer, in whjich case you'd just craft meds and see if someone will buy them. Most A and B packs should sell acceptabely well on the Bazaar, I would think. (I haven't tried it yet.)
The other reson would be the one you mentioned for healing yourself or friends at the lowest ability of those packs. Generally the A and B packs only require a5 medical use skill which you get at Novice. The Stim C, unexperimented requires around 35, or Pharm 3, I think it is. You may be able to find someone who will experiment the ease of use down to under 30, or Pharm 2 (again a guess, I foget the exact level). Not sure if they can be experimented down to a Pharm1 level or not, but I would say that I'm not sure that Pharm 1 has absolutely any use in the game at all, except as a step to get to the higher Pharmacy levels.
Diagnostic does NOT work currently and does NOT lessen the time it takes.
I am now a Novice Doctor and never has the Diagnostics IV done anything to help me with my medical
skills. it still takes 25 seconds to re-apply any kind of pack or 4 seconds to use a /tendwound command.
Diagnostics is SUPPOSED to lessen the time but it currently does not work.

Yes i have noticed that Diagonostics are doing nothng for my wound heal speed. But i get the faintest feeling that my stimpack healing time has gotten faster. Nothing I can prove and nothing major, just feels faster for some reason. I would have to agree that its bugged right now.
Get FA IV before anything else is my opinion...
Just to get thru here.
DIAGNOSTIC 1 IS NOT SUPPOSED TO SPEED UP WOUND HEALING!!!!!
okay now that is done with. Diagnostic speeds up the wait between stims. The only way to speed up the time between wound heals is to go up the doctor branch and get wound treatment speed.
The Diagnostics tree IS NOT SUPPOSED TO SPEED UP WOUND HEALING. It is supposed to speed up STIMPACK (damage) healing. That's why the skill bonus you get is Injury Treatment Speed, not Wound Treatment Speed.
(And yes, I've tested it, Diagnostics DOES increase the rate at which you can use stimpacks.)
Actually Diagnostics doesnt speed up stims either. I have tried to chain use my stims and I still get the same you must wait 4 secs message at diagnostic IV as I did at lvl 1 diagnostics. So either the games version of my 4 secs speeds up or its broken. Try it...click stims a bunch of times and see what happens...you'll still get a wait 4 secs msg.
So unless my 4 secs is a lot faster than 4 secs of a diagnostic I medic or its not working... I have tested this with medics with lower diagnostic and we still stimpack at the same speed...
Diag speeds up stimpack usage.
Focus reduces mind pool usage and mind wounds.
willpower controls mindpool regen rate.
