Thread: Get yourselves some Harvesters if you want to get OC up and help other Med skills
A few tips from my point of view on advancing medic exp.
I played Beta for about 3 weeks before launch and learned valuable lessions that have helped me greatly so far in live client.
As soon as you can afford it, get havesters for at LEAST Flora, Metal, and Water. You need a wind generator to power them as well.
A few tips onyour harvesters ;Wind Generators make power resource units. You then take that power out of the hopper and deposit it in your other harvesters. I thought as long as they were close together it was automatic, but it isn't. Also, harvesters require maintenance. You can pay this as needed or you can pay in advance. When I setup each harvester I put in 700 credits for maint expenses in advance so I don't need to bother with spending till that runs out (about 20 hours of operation). Try to place your harvesters close together so you don't spend all day running back and forth. Also, I would reccomend TWO fauna harvesters as a minimum. When you have a good amount of power, either sell the rest in bazaar or turn your wind generator off to save maint costs.
Just overnight last night I ended up with 900inorganic metals, 500 water, 600organics and also minerals. With those I was able to get50% done with OCIII in the space of about 80 minutes of on/off crafting, and hit the med center to get reg medical exp. I sold about 20 regular medpacks and also sold about 500 spare resources in the bazaar which netted me a profit of about 4k (mreo than enough to pay for maint on harvesters for another few days).
I started making Medpack B's last night and they are worlds ahead of A's. In one doseage I could get up to 170 exp for wounds as opposed to 50ish exp on A units.
Just a few tips and notes. I really enjoy this class. I go out hunting with 2 RL friends and can bring more to the group than just another pistol.
Those numbers kind of disappoint me. In two hours last night, I had 1000 copper and 600 fiberplast....
I have a friend that brings me organics, or I buy them right in the clinic....
With those, and making woundpacks-b, i spent about 2 hours to get withing 2k of completing org IV....
It looks like one of each harvester will not cut it???
Sampling is always faster. The difference with harvesters is that you can be getting up to 10 different ingredients, all of the very highest quality, all at the same time, and all without any effort on your part.
Pretty tough to beat that with sampling.
I was happy with the per harvester of output for things, but I also sacrificed some % of resources to have all my harvesters in a not too huge area.
I would recommend going with a minimum of one metal, one water, one chemical, and two flora harvesters though. Organics seem to be needed more than anything else. I will be adding another flora station tonight if I can pick one up. I paid between 1500 and 4000 for each of mine when I got them last night, I bought from whoever was selling when I needed them (it's still a sellers market).
The per hour numbers may not be that great, but if I can collect 600 to 800 units overnight of what I need I will be happy. The speed is slower than sampling, but overall more effective, and I can share my harvesters with friends who need items as well.
I have a couple quetions about harvesters if you would.
It appears from your post and the reading that I have done that you can buy a harvester from a player and that you should buy a fewof them for each type of material...correct?
It also appears you need a powersource...but my question regarding that is do you have to actually take the power and move it to the harvesters?
As to the harvesters themselves...do you need to survey and find a source or do you just plop it down and it goes?
If you do need a source....what % is required if any?
Finally...does the source ever dry up and if so what do you do then? I read it can be moved...is this true and if so how would you go about doing that?
Playing a medic is hard but it is rewarding so far though I am much further behind than most of you from reading here.
If you get the harvesters on a good enough concentration of resources 1 of each should do. Might want a second one for organics though.
To get power from a power harvester what you need to do is access the harvester, open the hopper, take out the power, go to the harvester you want to put power in, click thru the radial to deposit power and then put in whatever amount you want.
Survey is very helpful with harvesters. There is no set percentage a resource needs to be for harvesting but the higher it is the better the harvesting rate will be. You could just throw them down but then it's a crap shoot with the quality and density of the resources.
Yes resources dry up. They are on a timer that switches them every so often. You can do one of three things then. See if there are any good resources you can set it to and keep using it, Just let it burn to the ground (preferred method if there is nothing left to extract sense redeeding is so expensive), or put 1500 in the maintenance pool and redeed the harvester,
