Is there a way to heal yourself with a stimpack. I got one off a body and can't get it to work. I have novice medic skill as well - but don't know how it works

If you have trained in novice medic skills its pretty easy. Place the Stim in your inventory then click on it. The little radial wheel will pop up and say use. Put your cursor over use and it will give you an option to use on target or use on self. click on Use on self.
I am not 100% sure since I am a new medic, but some Stims may have different levels, and you may not have enough training to use it. Maybe someone else could say if that is true or not.

Write a macro like this: /healdamage (your name) and put that in your hotbar. That will heal you with the stimpack no matter what you are doing or who you are targeting.
The problem you are having is because they have set /healdamage to default to your target unless you are in combat with your target, even if your current target is the corpse of the creature you are no longer in combat with.

you can drag-and-drop it into your hotkeys, if you need ot use it during combat you will have to clear out your combat queue for it to work.
