I normally don't ask for credits, mostly because I don't need them, yet. They certainly help though to keep the harvesters going.

I would say that on average 75% of the people tip, at least in my case, and if you were the only person or did most of the work on them.

Tips seem to be either 100cr or 500cr... Marksmen and Brawlers tend to have more cash floating about from destroy missions. Entertainers tend to be even more starved for money then you are, however they don't have to build stuff to perform their services.

My suggestion for all the medics out there is to invest the time and money into Surveying and Engineering. It doesn't take that much time and is cheaper then buying the stuff from the bazaar. Alternatively you could form a coop with some of your buddies from the hospital and make some arrangements for everyone to chip into the harvester fund and share the resources, a couple harvesters will usually supply enough to keep several medics going. (Typically 1 Mineral, 1 Chem, 1 Water and 1 Wind Mill will burn about 3000 credits a day, but has the potential to make more then that.) Also if you're the one maintiaining them picking up two destroy missions in the direction of you harvesters can pay off your harvester fees for the day.

So right now I'm running without any need for tips, which frees me up to do more work in the field, which also tends to get you exp faster (especially once you hit or get near Master).

90% of my medic work is stims out in the field. I'm combat medic/pistoleer. So I basically get nothing in tips. Except for at times at fort tusken when some guy I've saved 10 or so times yells "tip the medics! they're saving your life!". Today that happened and I made about 2500cr.

Honestly I could care less if I get tipped or not, the thanks is more than enough to keep me happy. I love going out on the battlefield and helping people. Getting creds is just a nice bonus to it. Personally I prefer resources to creds to so I can make more meds, if I had to choose. I'm not into my obscure meds yet (like planet specific meds, who knows what else)so I have a feeling my xp and my love for CM are going to come to screeching halt. If that's the case I'll just stopat the point where I love playing it and put those pts into Dr. or something else.

I actually don't rely on tips. I have artisan and scout experience, so I survey for inorganics and harvest organics from corpses. Self sufficiency rules.

I find that I get the most tips when I'm not looking for them. What seems to help is what would normally help a doctor in the real world.... bedside manner.

Healing major wounds takes a great deal of time. Instead of sitting there and waiting until you can heal wounds again, start up a conversation with the patient. Ask the patient what he/she does. Ask how they got the wounds. Talk about anything. I got a huge tip from a guy that I spent 5 minutes healing just because we had each other laughing because of a movie we both liked. Thanks, by the way (you know who you are... I don't have 6 fingers) ;-)

I ALWAYS tip any medic or entertainer I get help from. I know entertainers can't STOP anyne from gaining from their performance, but why don't you guys just assess their wounds and then charge them. Look them over and state it will cost XXX to heal them. they don't like it, then they'll sit. If enough of you guys took that stance, then you'd have a good business. People doing it for free or cheaper will keep the economy to a reasonable level.

The problem with your proposal, xocgx, is that it would require some kind of physicians guild in order for that to be a viable prospect. If I tell a patient it's going to cost 1K to heal him, someone desperate for XP will run over and do it for free. That is, unless, we're part of the same guild. This seems very hard to pull off, as most people want to be independent. No, I'm afraid the consensus is that the way to make money as a medic - what little there is to be made, that is - is in the field, not in the hospital.

I prefer the honor system for healing. I hope to be able to heal wounds soon, and would hate to see players try to enforce some kind of price standards. Treat everybody differently because everybody's different. Not everybody has the same amount of money. Sometimes I need to get healed, I've got nothing in the bank, and I'm too weak to get my corpse. Sometimes I'm just plain broke. In those circumstances, I tip all I have. At other times, when my pockets are loaded, I tend to tip more. Bedside manner is important. If a medic teaches me something while healing me, then I'll tip more. If a medic treats on a first-come first-serve basis regardless of wounds (i.e. doesn't abandon me for an xp-lover's dream case), then I'll try to tip more. So my cash output is defined not only by the severity of my wounds, but also my bank account and personal preference. I like the informality of it and the variability. When prices get set, then we start thinking of medics as machines or objects rather than people.

When I'm out in the field, as often as not I'm being healed as much as I heal others. When grouped and adventuring, I expect no tips. The credits from completed missions to go everybody and I collect my share as a member of the group.

Regardless, be kind to your medic!

"Are those low numbers really fair for healing 100% black bars? Not in my opinion"

Hmm... I think I see your point - that it takes more time to heal a totally wounded player, so it should get a bigger tip. On the other hand, you get a lot more xp from a heavily wounded character, and you don't have to wait around for other patients to come in.

What makes me really disagree with that statement is the fact that medics are healers. They do what they do because they want to help people. So healing somebody with 100% black bars seems far more fulfilling to me as a healer than a quick fix of 10 wounds to focus. Then again, in Star Wars it's up to you to determine what kind of medic you want to be. All I can say is that I'd rather find somebody else than deal with a medic that tries to guilt me into a tip.

Thank goodness for diversity!

actually it doesnt take that long at all to heal fully black HAMs..

you just need wound pack Cs and Wound treatment and you can get people out in 3 mins...

I for one think that i care so much less about tips now i can heal faster...

it was mostly the issue of i could be making money right now doing missions rather than healing you, so I would be mad about tips..

Thing is most medics think that the med center is the play to xp, they are so wrong its not even funny...

then they get mad cuz they just wasted a ton of packs and a ton of time and got a tiny tip...

if you havent reached doctor, get out of the med center and stim people for xp...its much better xp and u can get loot and combat weapons xp.

SO honestly this tip for healing thread is getting to be a moot point..i use maybe 4-5 charges on a wound C pak that has 35 charges...its not costing me much money...its not costing me much time...

One thing I've considered doing is telling someone how much it would cost them to be healed *if* I was requiring payment, and then hoping the guilt factor sets in and I get something rather than the nothing I usually get. I haven't actually tried it but it seems that most patients might tip you something if you said "The extent of your wounds would typically require 1000c to fully heal, but please pay whatever you can afford - the healing is the same either way " It might encourage the low 50c tippers to offer 200+ and the non-tippers might actually start passing 50-100c. Are those low numbers really fair for healing 100% black bars? Not in my opinion, but as I stated, the healing is the same either way - it's good to simply help out.
