Thread: Question about crafting XP

This is my first attempt at a crafting profession and I have a question regarding getting the required crafting XP. I know I get some when I make the prototypes by hand in my crafting kits but will I get XP for making them with a schematic and a factory? I had heard about usage XP and wasn;t sure if it was a real thing and if that is what I'd get instead of crafting XP if I "mass produced" my stuff.

My question stems from the fact hat on Bloodfin I can buy and use much better stuff than I can currently make so I'm wondering about the fastest way to get through the crafting XP for a medic and up into the Doctor Line. I use the better products so I have little usse for what I make. I have no trouble finging people to "practice on" especially on this server but the crafting looks like it will take awhile and I wanted to check about manually crafting for all the XP before I sit down and do it.

Foctories are supposed to provide 10% of the XP you would have gotten from crafting that item by hand. They have not been doing so for some time now, however, but we don;t know for certain if that was an intended change or if not getting that 10% XP is just a bug. At any rate, we got no XP from factories.

UXP does exist and does work, but it is a fairly small amount of XP anyway and you don;t get it right away. In the case of Meds you get hte UXP only after all charges of a pack you crafted get used up by someone you traded your packs off to. (You don't get UXP for using your own packs.) I believe you can also get UXP for having someone else use your crafted medical components in their final products (like using your BECs to make their Stims with.) UXP doesn't always end up being instantaneous, however and could actually suffer from a significant delay of several hours before you get it, so it is often very difficult to measure your UXP gains.

Overall the best way to gain XP, if that is yoru only concern,is to simply hand craft and use the practice mode.

Great thanks for the insight. I just noticed the practice mode last night while working through some stims. It only boosted the XP by an extra point so I got like 31 instead of 30 for the crafting of the stims. Doesn't seem like much of a bonusbut I suppose too much would make it too easy.

Another question, does experimenting have any impact on XP?

Experimenting increases the complexity of the item being crafted. Higher complexity = more xp.

Actually, complexity after the fact makes no difference. Even before the fact in some cases, as there are some higher complexity items that give less XP than a lwoer complexity item would. But I'm 99% positive that experimentation will not yield you any more XP.

And that 1 point may not seem like a lot, but if you are grind crafting that means every 30 items you make, you got a freebie that you don;t have to make. Over the long run with everything you end uyp crafting that could be a fairly signifiicant number of clicks you don't have to do.

However, I have always found that, at least at the Medic level, thatup through around OC3 if you justmake stuff to use as you need it you'll go up pretty evenly with your healing skills and it won;t be too much of a chore to do the crafting. Getting OC4, though, and Doc and CM crafting are a different story, however. You'll get your healing XP from that point on faster than you will for packs you make to use on your own. It gets to be more of a grind from there on out. (Which is an issue on the list, BTW, but it doesn't get enough votes to even be in the Top 20. )

I stand corrected then. Thanks Zarlor!
