I'd like some answers here too. Alot of people are of the mentality that if the devs didnt want us to do this it wouldn't be in the game. The fact is that it's an exploitation of an existing flaw in the HAM system. Yes lets call a spade a spade it's an exploit. It needs to be stopped and I for one hope the new HAM system will end this stupidity. Hopefully we'll get some feedback on this soon.

Sorry to leave the rest of you out, but the truth is, I don't care what your opinions are, and I've already read several threads debating this. I'm curious what the developer's stance is on tumbling so that someone else can get medic exp. Is it an exploit or part of the game as intended. I ask because I sometimes do this for others and if it's an exploit, I'd like to know so that I can stop.

ok, I was in a hurry before, and was actually late for class because I was typing my question. I need to add that if any of you have official word from the devs, and have a link to it, I'd love to see it.

What is this flaw in the HAM system you're talking about. I'm pretty sure that any time you use your specials, it should take away from your HAM pools, and, therefore, when you tumble, it will in fact take away from your HAM pools no matter what changes to the HAM system are enacted. As far as I can tell, an exploit is taking advantage of an unintentional flaw in the game mechanics, and, since specials are supposed to take away from your HAM pools, using them just for the sake of losing HAM points is not an exploit. For example, say I was out in the field fighting, and I know that I can take down a fambaa on my own without using my specials, and in fact would do so if I were by myself so as not to drain my HAM too much and have to heal. Now I'm with a medic, and I know he/she needs the medic xp, so I use my specials primarily to allow him/her to heal me. Is that essentially any different than using tumbling in a medcenter so that a medic can heal you?

The question is, effectively, irrelavent. The Combat Revamp means that action, like Tumble, will no longer do Damage, but affect either the HAM bar itself or a seperate Specials Bar (like a Manna bar if you will). As such tumbling will no longer provide a method for gaining XP. And that's official based on the many Dev posts (and test performed on TC) regarding the combat revamp.

As for it being an "exploit". First it must be realized that there two seperate definitions of the word that constantly get used interchangably and cause a great deal of confusion.

Exploit as it is most commonly used is simply taking advantage of the system in a way it was not meant to be taken advantage of. This does not necessarily imply a situation where you could be banned, however.

The other form of exploit, at least when normally used by the Dev tem, tends to refer to a situation where such advantage is being taken AND where doing so IS a bannable offense. I will assume this is ther version you mean when asking if this is an "exploit".

Based on that, there has been no official word or ruling that I am aware of that would declare tumble-healing as a bannable exploit. Likely they will not bother looking for or declaring it as such anyway because of the COmbat Revamp, as mentioned, anyway. So a "fix", no matter how inadvertent, is already in the works.

Of course most of us do consider tumble-healing to be an "exploit" fromthe first definition, meaning we think it is cheesy and taking advantage of a situation that should not have existed in the game in the first place, but again without official word you can pretty safely assume that this is NOT a bannable offense.

Thanks Zarlor for that clear and concise response and explanation. You assumed correctly what I was looking for, and I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I look forward to seeing these new changes in the game.

Thanks for the clarification. I understood that the new HAM system was probably going to end this stupidity. While in reality it seems no different than healing entertainers to me it just reeked of exploitaion. This revamp is going to make things interesting as whats been described appears to be a workable fatigue system. Will we have any way to impact the recovery of the secondary stats that will diminish as people do their specials? I'm not even sure thats a good idea but it's a question that needs to be asked.

Well, we don't exactly know how, or even if, secondary stats will have an effect on the regen rates of these specials' bars. We'll all just have to wait until it hits TC before we can really get a good look at it.
