lol, we dont get too many of these any more

OK, first thing is, NEVER (and by never, I mean Never Ever) use medical forage. It is 99.99% broken and will only help you to get frustrated. There are two scenarios for you to consider depending on if you are brand new to the game or just new to medic. Since you said your a first time player I will start with that in mind.

A few things about medic:

You need a Food and chemical crafting tool to make anything better then a stim A.

You can craft stim B's once you get to organic chemistry II. Stim A's are useless other then if your just starting.

Whenever you craft anything you actually plan on using, you should stand next to a food and chemical crafting station. This will give you the option to experiment as you craft.

Resources: Two things you need to keep in mind. Your going to need organic (such as meat or flora) and non-organic (such as metal) resources.

To get non-organic, your best bet may be to look on the market to see if there is anything cheap. Or ask around, someone may give you a good deal since you are just starting.

organic - you should look on the bazzar for this as well. Though this is likely to be a little more costly then what you want to pay. Your best bet is to take up a combat profession to help you along. Go to a marksman trainer and get the skill. Then goto the bazaar and find a cheap weapon and start attacking stuff outside of the city your in. Once you kill something you will need the scout skill. This allows you to get meat or hide or bone (but as a medic, you want meat) off of any animal that you kill.

So to summarize organics: Get marksman, scout and a gun and kill animals. Use their meat as your organics in your stims.

Now this is only a small taste of the things you need to keep in mind. If you really want some insite, I suggest you go check out the stickys on the top of this board and check a couple of the fan sites, they have great FAQ's and walkthroughs for the starting medic.

Practice allows you to get an extra 5% of xpwhen you craft, but whatever item your creating, does not actually get crafted. Its kinda like pretend crafting.

Its great if your just trying to grind out your crafting tree because you dont get stuck with a bunch of useless things that you craft. Personally I didnt use it for medic, I was able to use everything that I crafted, but if you go to doctor or CM, then you will need to start using practice mode in conjunction with a macro.
