Thread: Why was healing pets nerfed again?
I'm a novice doctor, and I'll admit I got a lot of my med xp on the way to master medic by healing my pets, and my groupmates.I spent very little time in the med centers, only long enough for me to get my wounds healed up.
When the pet xp nerf came down, I was upset at having to change my play style to accomadate the developers arbitrary decisions. I don't like being told "Here, you can play any profession you like, in any combination, and with any play style. It's up to you... oh wait, you want to do it THAT way...um, no. We thought everyone would do it THIS way. Here, let us fix that for you."
At the time of the nerf I thought it was possible that healing my pets was a tad to good, asI had nothing to compare it against, but in truth through play I hadn't found that my medic skills were progressing much faster than any other of my skills and I used that as my basis that it was probably fine. Note, that this was through play and letting xp accumulate naturally. I never tried to "grind" any of my skills,I just played.
Well, the change has been in for a while now, and here is what I've noticed. I now have a job to go to in game. I log in, go to the med center, register myself with the global map (feels a LOT like punching in for work btw), and set about healing up wounds. I sit with a bunch of other medics, doctors, and assorted other people who want some med skills. It's crowded. Truthfully, much more crowded in there than it ever used to be based on the times whenI used to go for my own wounds. When wounded comes in it starts a frenzy of healing, as everyone wants to get some of the precious xp they need. Now, I'm a doctor, and I have spent a lot of time getting good ingrediants and I make advanced components, fully experimented of course. What this means is almost no one compares with my heals. I get as much xp, maybe even more, as I ever got playing with my pets.I say maybe more, as in the med center I have a constant stream of players to heal during prime time, and THIS feels like grinding xp. Unfortunately the other people who need med xp aren't getting nearly as much, because I outheal them. I felt so sorry for them one night thatI passed out a bunch of really good woundpacks to help them along.
My point is that this change was really bad. I'm punching the clock and getting my big xp paycheck. I'm NOT playing. I get as much xp as before, but enjoying the game less. Other medics are enjoying the game less with med centers filling up on people who probably used to get thier xp off pets too, and taking xp away from people who WOULD choose to sit in the med center for thier xp. Novice medicshave it worse than before. Non dedicated medics have it worse than before. Anyone inclined to "grind" xp can still do so (I saw one guy repeatedly healing his friend who would run off to take a death or 2).
So I ask, if the xp gain hasn't changed, and people are having less fun, why was pet heal xp nerfed?
I don't know if this has been fixed since the first patch, that eliminated the xp for healing pets. I found that I could still get xp for healing wounds on my pet in the med center. So you can still get xp for healing your pet, just not for damage.
Now this avenue for getting xp will be taken away, since I've said something.
