Ok, this may have been on this forum somewhere but I personally dont feel like hunting it down. When I heal a friend of mine and his pet, this is usually during combat and sometimes not in combat, it gives me a message that states: "It would be unwise to help such a patient" I've asked many different people about this message and mainly the answer i have been getting is this: "it's because of his and yours' faction points" Well we both have the same amount of faction points, and we're both undeclared even yet, so I am wanting to know what is causing this message every time i try to heal him?

the reason is called a TEF

Temporary Enemy Flag

Its caused from PvP/Faction fighting.

This thread does a good job explaining what TEFs are and how they work:

So what's the use of being a combat medic or a medic period if you can't heal the people that are attacking someone else? That just doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever.

This is my example for my character in game. My friend is a Bounty Hunter who has like 115 faction points, not enough to be declared. My character, who's a medic, has like 95 faction pts, also not enough to be declared. I go with him on his BH missions and was HOPING to heal him and his pet but I get the "it would be unwise to help such a patient" message. How can he have TEF if he's only attacking a BH mission target, not a factional target. Second, that link above does not really apply to my problem i'm having in game, so therefore I don't feel like he nor myself is receiving TEF?? Can anybody tell me what the problem i'm having is then?

I believe that you can't heal opposing factions. Therefore, If I am understanding you correctly he may be given a TEF if he is attacking something. If he has a TEF you can not heal him because he is considered part of a faction and you are neutral. This is just what I have been lead to believe through my experience. hope this wasn't too confusing.

I've ran into this same problem countless times. I couldn't even heal coverts. I agree that, what's the point of being a medic, doctor, combat medic, if you can't heal anyone you want. It was my understanding with the game, that as long as you were neutral you could heal anyone one you wanted. Granted, if you healed an imp, you would get a imp tef for an hour. If you healed a rebel, same thing. I understood this from the strategy quide, did I read it wrong?

My solution was to just join the rebel, so I could heal more people. I'm on corellia, and there are a lot of rebs around.

I am completly neutral, and I get that "unwise" message all the time. I was in the med center with one non-overt person for a very long time, and I couldn't even trade with him.

I'm pretty sure I've healed overt people though.

So, is this a bug, or a "feature"?

I've tried to heal overt and covert people, when I was neutral, and got the "unwise" message. It doesn't matter. You can't heal them either way.
