Thread: Two ends of the tipping spectrum, the ideal is probably somewhere inbetween...

Last night my aspiring, and stuggling novice medic was in the medical center tending to the injuried and wounded and I noticed two types of individuals. The first was a medic a little more advanced then myself. People would come in for training on their medical skills, and he would demand 1000 credits to train per skill. And if people came in looking for healing of wounds, it was 100 credits per healing attempt. This seemed extreme to the ridiculous level, and made me feel bad as a member of the Star Wars Medical community.

On the other hand while I was healing, I try not to be a pest about donations. I don't even ask most of the time. I had this individual come in needing about 300 action wounds healed. I started healing him and went through about 4 action wound packs and 2 health wound packs. He tipped me 27 credits and wanted me to go run missions with him to keep him healed. I spent 6 wound packs and close to an hour healing him and his tip seemed a little lite. Maybe it was totally appropriate. I said thank you, but I wouldn't put him ahead of other folks the next time he needed healing. I think the answer or appropriate donation level is somewhere in between.

Any similar experiences?

I just heal everyone in the center for the sake of xp. I also let it be known that for an upfront negotiable fee, I will concentrate solely on one person. It works very well. Those who cannot afford to tip don't bother to ask me, and they continue to get auto-healed or randomly healed by xp-seeking medics (including me when I don't have a customer). Those who do ask for my undivided attention are willing to pay well for it...I don't even name a price. I let them choose and every time it has been a nice amount. 300 has been the lowest.

Ive seenall ends of the tip spectrum myself. Ive had some people give me what I consider wayyy too much for what they need, imho, but that was fine with me. I've had others who can't pay at all, and the runoffs who promise big tips and disappear. funny, they dont reply to /tell.. I need to start making a list, well i digress...

I think the best way to determine tip amount is by the amount of damage healed; my second favored method is for them to bring in resources (rather than wound paks) for their healing. Lets you control what degree of pak to make (A,B,C) by telling them what to bring in.

The ideal solution would be for the individual clinics to come up with a fee schedule that everyone can live with. It would be nice to be able to post the schedule on a marker in the facility as well. (in short, I dont care how an individual charges, but if they are in the same facility as I am, we need to work together for pricing so we dont end up hitting the extremes as far as billing goes...)

Hi,

I can see why some people would want 1000 credits, but on the other hand, it doesn't really give an incentive to go them over the NPC trainers that are setup all over the place. I would think that finding a fellow player would benefit us both if they were offering something a bit lower, like 500 or 700 credits.

I am also one of those people that are enjoying myself running around healing people for the XP. I suppose once I get to the level of (almost) master, I might want to start asking for payments, and focusing on training.

I've also found good economy in selling stim packs and other items in the bazaar.

Maybe there's a solution to the pay scale of a medic? I don't think there is. Its like being in sales. The fair price is the one agreed upon by the customer and the sales associate.

With that said. Find your niche in the market, and flourish.

If someone is charging you for training, they are ripping you off. You can get free training from a vast majority of players. The training xp is far more valuble to the trainer and most like he/she got that skill for free too. I hope the tipping gets better where I'm at (Flurry/Coronet), cause I'm broke.

Cherlo,,,you might think it's a rip off but look at it from some of our points of view. I had to personally pay for each and every one of my skills. Why because i had no life for the first 3 days and power leveled.

Now i dont think asking for some cash from those below me is too bad,,i hafta recoup some of my costs and they get a deal.

10% cost of npc skills is a good tip for skills.. that makes it 100-400.

I charge 20% of the orginal cost for training. That's when I do charge, and I dont charge union members.

As for tipping. The InterGalatic Health Association came up with a decent charging scheme. 1 credit per 2 wounds for Medpack As and 1 per wound for Bs and Cs. This covers the cost of making medpacks. Sometimes you get a bit more, sometimes a bit less. I also work probono now and then.

20% is very reasonable. Heck, I'd gladly pay 800 credits rather than 4000 credits for a Level4 skill.

I do somewhat agree and disagree with Cherlo and not charging at all. If you pay for your training, you should get something in return if someone wants you to train them. It benefits you both. You get some money back, and they get a heck of a discount.

Now, on the other hand, I could see giving away training if someone was kind enough to give you the skill free.

Really what it boils down to is this. If you don't want to pay someone, then go get training from someone else.

I never charge for trainng. We have few enough medics that I really think we need to help each other out, and I also have paid for all of my skills. I never even ask for a tip from my fellow medics, but I do let them know that I appreciate what they do give me for the Medic Training Fund. We have pooled money togehter before for me to get training so that all of the other medics can be trained by me and tye in return can train others.

I also get no reward for training anymore. I have enough apprentice points to Master three times over. I simply do not need any more. But it is part of what I like to do to train for free, pass out GOOD resources when I can and help the new medics learn the ropes. We actually have a rather thriving medic sommunity in Dearic, Talus on the Eclipse server becaue of it,I think.

I have also been vocal about helping other medics so that patients in the room can see what we have to go through as a medic (and Doctor, in my case) and the costs involved. This gives them a much greater appreciation of how useful tips, wheter in the form of creds, resoureces or just something else (I've been given harvesters before.) This has proven to be very useful in letting the pations know and understand the trials of going medic and how little we tend to make and yet realize how much we really need just to get them heled up and out in the field faster so they can make more money and save valuable time for gaining more XP.

As for Tipping levels, I agree that you would need probably around 2 creds per every wound healed just to break even. And DON"T heal anyone that you see has Mind wounds. Make them go to the cantina to get that ballt fatigue healed up before coming to us for healing. If you heal them you are really wasting a good deal of the resources you used to create the meds to heal them because you will not be healing for as many points as you could. You may lose 1/3 or more of the healing points that you could have done if they had no battle fatigue at all. It's a win/win situation for them because they will need to heal their mind wounds anyway and when they do get back to the med center they will be gettign healed up and out of there that much faster.
