Thread: Timing, Timing, Timing: Medics biggest problem:In combat!
"Good heals dont heal anyone if your teammate or you are incapped do to no reliable way of determining when the heal is going to kick off"
One of my biggest concerns is not healing when i need to. I have know idea when the heal is going to kick off. "Yes, you get a message on your screen that says: "4,3,2, ...." But it lies alot. Its not that big a deal when your in town.
But....
When your out with a group and your job is support and heals. its a big problem.
Example:
My role is a medic. When the group enters battle, I do an /assist /follow on the puller. I dont use any specials. I just heal and let my gun shoot normally, but the heals want go off on time. I have had it where i didnt get to heal for 10 sec. then it turns around and heals in 6 sec. Then 8sec. Then if I ever get aggroed, I will target myself and press heal for 12 sec and get a message: "you cant heal while incap".
Request: I dont know if SWG is looking into this. But im requesting in the short term solution that it show up on the queue menu. or a seperate que menu. Plz. that way it will help the doc/medic with timeing.
Thks SWG.
PS: Im not the best writer, but I hope my idea and concern was understood.
Understood and I hear ya![]()
I am having the same issue. I am firing on my target and I hit heal, somtimes it does not go off forseconds and my group gets a liitle annoyed because I am healing too late....

Its a pain, the lag time is very bad.. There was many times when I wanted to heal someone and it didnt heal them till 30 seconds later and other players started being incap..
Has to be fixed
If your primary purpose in the group is as the medic, then don't attack anything. If someting aggros on you /opeace out of it.
The reason is that your healing queues up like your combat specials do, so the dealy bewteen heals is actually greater than they would be if you were not in combat.
If they REALLY neeed your gun (and a good group does not need your gun if you are keeping them up and running since they can concentate the energy on the tactics they are using and now about going incap) then set up a macros for /peace;/follow so you can peace out when your heals are really needed.
Otherwsie avoid gettgin hit at all costs and know hwo much your stims tend to heal for. That way you will know that if you are a bit down, but have a fighter (who can keep you alve) almost down you will know it it is OK to heal them right away or if you need to heal yourself first, let them drop, but bring them right back up again as soon as you can get over to them. A good stim will bring an Incapped player right back to theri feet, instantly.
If you're targetting the creature and in attack mode, it takes a variable amount of time to disengage your attack, switch targets, and fire off that heal. This contributes to the variable and slow timing of heals going off, at least for me.
If you don't mind losing the combat exp points, simply target the groupmate you intend to heal, and you'll find those /heals going off much more reliably. Or start adding the /peace command to shut off the attacks before trying the heal.
My primary purpose is a field medic. Since the second day of the game thats just about all i do. A couple tips of advice:
1. Healing and keeping smaller groupd alive is much easier and very feasable. ( I was doing rebel missions last night with a 3 man group, including myself and no one got killed and we mad about 6000 buck)
2. When you approach a target make your team kneel around you. Tell all of them not to move and stay in the kneel/prone position. That includes yourself.
3. I am very active in combat and still i am able to heal my team. Target your aggresser for combat. Dont use your mouse to target your team mates. USe CTRL+1 or 2 or 3 or 4. Each number corresponds to a team member, 1 being yourself. This allows you to maintain target lock on your enemy and still heal yourteam. This sounds confusing, but with practice it works. So while i am waiting between heals,i am contributing to combat. This way, while in the heat of battle and engaged in attack, the only controls i use are CTRL adn a number and my hotkey command for /heal health.
4. Udse your hotkey command for heal health. This command automaticlly takes stims out of your inv and heals.
5. Make sure before you go out in the field to be full loaded with stims.
6. Avoid big groups. Too many to heal and there usually is one or two peeps that dont listen to the fact that you cant heal from far distances. These are the fellas that run around and panic when the fit hits the shan. Then the b i t c h at you when they die.
7. find some one to set up a harvester and work out a daily resource plan. For instance, i have it worked out from a fella who has put out some harvesters for me. I pay him a certain amount every day and he supplies me with 200 orgs/200 inorgs/100 water everyday. This keeps me stocked up on stims and i have my org chem skill maxed.
These are just a few things that have helped me be successfull. Just remeber, everyone has there own style. These are just tips.
If you are concerned about the time it takes inbetween heals, boost your diagnostic skills.
good luck!

Ok, for the most part I am using your method:

My character will continue to fire on the agressor while I am assisting the brawler, which this is fine. The problem is, If i use my heal button, my character will sometimes wait for a number of seconds before actually cease firing to heal and this has been an issue.
Elanora suggests hitting the peace button when you are ready to heal someone, then go back to assist after the heal. I just want to make sure I am understanding thsi right. I plan to be a combat medic so I have to use my weapon to get th combat XP needed to get there.

well, im glad im not the only one having problems in this area...
I discovered that if you do not engage the enemy, and strictly heal your group members...there is little to no delay. However, if you engage in combat, you never know when your heals are gonna go off! Much like what you all have described.
Now, im wondering if this might help: create a macro with the command:
/peace;/heald;
so you will stop fighting, and heal whichever one of your group members you have targeted...maybe without the delayed response?
any ideas?
I'm not so sure that this is as black and white as you guys are making it seem. What exactly is the diagnostics line for again? Diag II doesnt decrease my out of combat5 second timer, so the only thing it could be decreasing is the delay i see while in combat. Now, if there is a skill that is supposed to give a bonus to this time, why the heck isnt there some sort of pattern to it? I was fighting with my friend today, and I threw a heal his way when he was at about 3/4 full in both his health and action pools. The heal didnt end up actually getting where it needed to be until he was already incapped, which, although kind of funny, wasnt so good, since he was just incapped three seconds later.
Since there is an entire branch of medic profession that is supposed to center around healing during combat, it would seem important for the heals to at least be consistant. Do i incur an X second delay every time i get hit? Every time i fire my weapon? Is there supposed to be a flat in-combat heal timer? All of these things would be very useful to know.
I hope somebody can figure all this stuff out. After playing in the beta, one of the most exciting things about this game to me was that i was going to be able to play a healer without having to sacrifice my ability to do some damage in combat. If trying to fight completely compromises this ability because of unreliablity, i'd be pretty disappointed.
