My advice would be to get medic and artisan. Since the game is still new, not many people can make harvesters yet. But once people can you can surrender out of survey and use harvesters for ur resource needs. Or if you have the money buy resources off of people. I personally have survey IV and love it...I can get enuff resources for 20 B packs in about an hr...

I've been playing around with some numbers trying to plan the build of my character and I have a question regarding the medic line.

In order to be able to heal wound damage, do you have to be an artisan or buy organics from artisans or is there some medic ability where you can get your own organics?

Greetings,

I would highly recommend becoming an artisan while you work on your medic skills. Surveying is an easy chain to learn, and provides more than enough resources to master medic. Also you'd want to look at the Engineering chain. Learning the Eng. chain will do two things: 1) allow you to make $ off of bone armor 2) build your own factories.

Usually, I buy bone armor off of my patients. Develop some good connections with scouts and marksman you heal up! Or take bone and hides as a form of tip or payment.

Factories are key because you can generate resources while you're OFFLINE. I woke up this morning and had 1500 of organic and 1500 of inorganic materials ready to roll.

In terms of answering your point question - yes you can definitely learn your medic skills while spending points in Artisan. My math might be a little fuzzy, but I believe it's 72 for Master Medic (including 15 for Novice Medic), and 57 to get Master Doctor. So that combined is 129 points, well short of the skill cap (250). And even if you decide you want to take on other skills, you can always drop artisan later. But in the beginning I would consider it ESSENTIAL to be an artisan while training up your Medic skills.

Hope that helps, if you have any more questions post away!

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure you will need Medical Knowledge 4 to use them, since their standard medical usage required is 32.

Alternately, you can use Stim-C's with Medical Knowledge 3 as long as you have a skill mod gem which adds +2 to your medical usage.

If the ease-of-use experimenation worked, then we would be able to drop the medical usage requirements below 30, but alas that particular experimentation does not work.

Experimentation has been working for me and I was certainly able to make 30 Med use stimpack C's.

Maybe it got fixed since you last tried

I just took novice medic, and I'm wondering what I should look for in resource qualities. I was told PE for meat and such, but what about inorganic? Does it matter?

Yes, you need inorganic to make stim's

OQ and PE for Organics, OQ and UT for Inorganic. Some have said in the past that Malleability has some effect, though I've not noticed it.
