Thread: which tree should I climb first?
I'm crafting my own meds for the Organic Chemistry tree and using the meds to heal because I don't have much money. I asked a novice doctor that trained me which tree I should climb up first, and she said "pharmacology, so you can use better meds". I let her train me to pharmacology 1.
Well, I'm now at 0-0-2-3 now, and I'm starting to think that was a mistake. If I had the money to buy better meds for healing, I think that it would make sense. The way I understand the skills (very rudimentary), it seems like pharmacology only gives me access to the advanced meds, but either First Aid or Diagnostics would make me more efficient with what I have. I'm thinking First Aid since my mental stats aren't that good. Am I right in this assessment?
Also, once I was able to make some wound packs, I spent some time in a medical center. I didn't see anybody that needed healing for quite a while. Once I did find someone that needed healing, it seemed to take forever to heal him up (due to no diagnostic or first aid skills combined with crappy meds), and he didn't tip me. I'm now thinking I should work on my combat skills first so I can actually make money to support my medical endeavors. Does that sound like the right approach?
I know alot of people that do the lvl 4 pharmacology route.
I've yet to see them actually perform any better than me with nothing more than 2/0/0/0 and some stim b's.
They may outdo me a little in stim ability, but they have to find the harder and pricier Stim-c's to compete. Where as I can find high quality stim-b's in bulk on most bazaars.
A rated 400dmg healing Stim-b can do as high as 800dmg healing with nothing more than 2/0/0/0 medic.
Also they can't heal they're own bleeds or anyone elses with pharmacology.
IMHO
Going up pharm is only a good thing if you really plan to go master medic.
Which tree is going to enable you to pull xp the fastest, thus making the rest of the trees go faster? I don't know how medic works yet, but the other professions i'vemastered have a pattern to help you grind the profession faster. For example, Dancers get dancing knowledge 4 before even touching the other tree. TKs get balance 1 for the KD, then get power 4. Doing so makes the grind faster and less tedious.
And Capt_Moroni, why isn't your guild called The Nephites or something like that?
Im in the same boat...just started working on Medic this last week and I must say its pretty easy to move up compared to some other professions!
My "way" was to leave pharmacology until I hit level 3 with everything else... Organic 1 - 3 has been easy so far (as long as you are making your own stuff and not buying it). First Aid lets you heal for more (alot more once you hit level 3) and Diagnostics lets you heal faster (once again, alot faster once you hit level 3... can you say breakpoint?)
Anyways, unless you purchasing Stim C's from the vendor you have no need to raise Pharm until later, by that time it becomes "cheap" compared to the other skills. Roughly speaking, my take is that a Medic's healing XP is WAY to easy to level in
So in a nutshell -> First Aid + Organic Chem then Diagnostics (or simultaneously) then....Pharmacology
Hope that helps

I basically am doing the same thing you are. I craft all my own stims and use them to heal.
I went 1/4/1/4 first. Diag 4 is SO nice that I reccomend that first to anyone. The amazing speed at which you can heal will help you gain xp faster. By the time you get Diag 4, you will also have O Chem 4 and can craft VERY nice Stim Bs that you can use to get Pharm 3. I would suggest getting 1/4/3/4, experiment on the Stim Cs so you can use them at Pharm 3 and then finish off the First Aid Line. So, next would be 4/4/3/4, than finish Pharm 4 and Master. That was the route I took andI found it to be extremely rewarding and fast. Good luck.

Before I decided to Master Medic I had a Doctor friend make me some crates of Stim B's so healing amount is not a problem. Icould heal 200+ wounds in one shot at Novice Medic. So I went up Diagnosis (so I could heal faster) first and Now I am going Up First Aid. (for better treatment). Then Pharm and finally will grind out Organics.
Just my 2 credits.
