Thread: Am I about to gimp myself?

I have an idea for a generalist character, but I wonder if I'm going to make myself useless at higher levels by not specializing fully in a specialized career...

My idea is this: Master Scout, Master Medic, Surveying IV, Pistol IV, Ranged Weapon Support III, and the two ranged healing lines in Combat Medic.

I forsee this as being more of a wilderness version of a combat medic, but focused on traps and the like rather than poisons and diseases.

I have an idea for a generalist character, but I wonder if I'm going to make myself useless at higher levels by not specializing fully in a specialized career. As this is my first character, I have started as a generalist, and find I enjoy a bit of crafting, socializing in the medical centers and cantinas (while keeping the entertainers full of energy), and hunting. None of the specialist careers seem to offer that though.

You really should just give it a go and see what u enjoy. The beauty is that anything you find yourself not using you can always unlearn and learn something new.

sounds pretty neat... but just do what you want to do... its your character, if you don't like it, surrender the skills

He's got a point, I'm sure you'll be useful for any number of skilled groupings, if that's what you're worried about. A camp full of master bounty hunters still can't heal themselves, right?

You can't do that- you need Ranged IV to qualify for combat medic.

Also, I'm not sure what lines in CM you are referring to exactly (I assume ranged healing speed & ranged healing distance) but without CM support you're only going to be able to use ranged A if I'm not mistaken (mind you, I haven't touched CM since beta so I might be going on outdated information ).

Not to mention you'll have to buy anything higher than ranged A without the crafting line.

I like your idea though.

Aye -- for Combat Medic skills you'll need Ranged Support to use the good stims, and CM Med Crafting to build them yourself (would be terrible to have to rely on others for your ranged stimpacks). Because of the difficulty it takes to get Ranged Weapon Support IV, I would fear that you're not going to find too many people selling CM stims.

With the CM Tree, much like the Doctor tree, all the things you train rely on the others in one way or another. What you're saying is doable, but I fear it will be a difficult character to play as far as healing is concerned.

FYI, you'll need RWS IV to make Combat Medic. You'll only be able to get up 2 boxes in the Ranged Healing line.

Also, you're paying a pretty high price for Survey IV. if you patronised a miner or a commodities shop, you could spend the points elsewhere. An alternative would be Ranger - Frontiering IV, (High Tech Camp Kit) and Combat Medic - Ranged Heal Distance/Speed III. You could then take RH Distance OR Speed IV, and have 1 point left over, which would be wasted right now. Or you could just pump Ranger or CM as suits your play style.

Play around with this tool, it's pretty fun...

That's an awesome tool. I'm so confused about where I want to go past Master Scout.

great tool ....

Master Scout + Ranged Weapons Support Spec + INSERT FAVORITE WEAP. spec. => Master Ranger and Master Squad Leader.

you'll spend a lot of time getting there, but you'll really be able to make some groups happy with all of the skills you'll have.

Great tool, I like this one a little better though.. http://www.beafraid.com/swgcb/swg-cb.php?prof_id=32 . ByroTimereyou would contribute greatly to any group. At the moment I have a great mix of skills, kind of a jack of all trades. As I head closer to Master Ranger I plan on dropping some skills. My final character will be something very close to this.. Master Ranger, Pistol Specialist, Ranged weapon support specialist, Pistol Specialist. Pharmoligy I, Organ Chem III, Diagnostic II, Surveying III... If I have easy access to stim/med packs then I'll dropmost of my medical skills and pick up Riflemen just for the T21 rifle
