Thread: Medical Foraging ?
What does it do exactly?
and how usefull would you rate this skill?
what does it do? nothing useful
how would I rate it? -10
It was put into the game during beta as a temporary measure to help medics get organics when the Stim A schematic had 3 slots each requiring 1 organic of any type. Therefore it gathers random organics one at a time. The Stim A recipe was revised at the end of beta to 8 identical organic, 8 identical inorganic, making the medical foraging ability irrelevant. Holo has suggested they may revamp it, but it's not exactly top priority.
This skill is useful when you start the medic profession. You have no money to buy resources and this skill is very helpful to get them.
But, once you are more experienced, you need to get a lot of resources and foraging is not enough.
Morven, I hope that is not a 10 on a scale of 10. It had better be a scale of at least 400,000.
And, as far as I know, medicalforage is an useful as anyone's BowFlex. :-)
But, yes, medicalforage is a piece of junk (replace junk with a more frequently censored word)
medicalforage was usful during beta when kits only used 1 item; however now the skill is worthless.
Traigus, this is one area that would get you lots of cheers. Get them to drop the medicalforage and instead give us standard survey/sample capbilities. If phar IV was equivant to the capabilities of surveying I it would be of great us; would remove the worthless medicalforage and allow every medic to not have to train artisan in order to do any good.
So I have a question.
I am an artisan, and have been one from the start so I could always use the /sample command. Is this command available to all classes, and can any class use the survey tools?
The reason I ask Is I plan on going further up the medical tree, but to do so I need to give up some of my artisan point so I was curious

There has been a lot of problems with starting out as a medic and getting going effectively from getting dropped off from the station. This proposal met with mostly postive feedback, with the exception of making med A's work with te new system.
General consensus (on the boards anyway) was to use the new /medforage and device for /tends (basically a low powered tool that could use any tend command and used /medforaged stuff as charges) and keep A packs as they are.

(I have no info on how much this has progressed in development, if it has at all.)
I think you need to learn novice artisan skill to sample. Also, I believe you need a sampline tool (such as mineral or flora survey device). If you can get your hands on one, then you're set.
Starting out as an artisan helps you get a head start, because you start out with these tools for free. That's what I did.
