Thread: A request for changes to the medic skill tree

I know that there is the much debated issue of medical forage and its current lack of worth. instead of revamping that skill I would instead propose that we add a scaled down version of surveying one of the trees (pharmacology seems like a good one)

currently a novice artisan can survey at 64 meters to start. If we took that and could only survey for mineral, floral, chemical and water this would allow a starting medic to have some level of independance while maintaining the interdependance at higher levels.

thoughts?

I am all for this, anything to remove the need for medics take the artisan branch.

If they just made is that phar II was the same as novice artisan(for sample/survey stuff only) and then phar IV was the same as survey I their would still be a reason to take artisan for some people but most medics could remove that class.

Yeah, medical forage was introduced when stims only took 3 organics to make (and even then it was hard to get components!)

Personally, I dont see anything wrong with taking the artisan route to get the survey / sampling tools, but I can see the probelm for novice medics who start out as medics and find it very difficult to get resources for stims.

Maybe noivce medics should be given Min, & Flora survey tools and the option to 'try out' the survey method of gaining resources before they decide if they want to advance in surveying any more.

I agree, I got artisan, but tahts the only way, Im just wasting my skill points on it when I could use it for other medic professions. Its hard to find resources, now Ive just started buying off the bazaar. :/

I mainly purchase from the bazaar myself. However you will still need to keep artisan around for surveying/sampling because the rarier items do not come up for sale. If people sample for the rare items it is to use them themselves, so in order to get better stuff you as the medic needs to have some way to survey for thoses types of resources.

The game developers want people to have balanced characters. I think medical forage is a complete joke on us, yes. Medics have no choice, especially early in the game, but to develop their surveying skill. I think that is fine, and I use it all the time. I would certainly be in favor of a more effective medical forage that was more closely resembling a limited surveying skill. The problem with that is, medics need a LOT of different materials and medical forage would have to be the same thing as surveying to get them all. Once you can make decent money, just buy them off the bazaar. I have harvesters and sell all of my left overs. Always the best quality ingredients I can get off Rori or Naboo.

Medical forage is pretty useless. But what you can do is buy a harvester and place it next to a bunch of other harvesters, you don't need to survey because you know there's something there and the harvester will tell you what the concentration ofa resource is. It's kinda hard to get the highest quality resources with this method, but it will net you a large amount of necessary resources to build stims to use in the field while advancing.

Holo has said he doesn't want to give us something that belongs to artisan. it cheapens the novice atrisan skills.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=medic&message.id=192&page=1

He mentions the last plan we heard about here, and also expalains why he doesn't want to give use any kine of /sample, later in the thread...

It also fixed /tends from appearing to be magic, by tying them to a device.

I'm putting your concerns on my list though.

I'd just like to say "good job" to Tragius, our correspondant. It's not quite the same as a direct response from Holo, but it's nice to see the feedback loop at work.

Maybe remove /medicalForage and add something else to get stim components? I think this was the original intent of this ability, but it's no longer useful.
