Medic Archive
Thread: Would like a DEV to read/respond to this one.
First off, I am not a Dev and I could care less either way about the pet XP healing issue. That said...
Sitting in a med center or grouping with players to heal their "tank" pets for Xp is not the only way to earn med Xp. I earned about 90% of my Xp for Combat Medic and Doctor with groups at Fort Tuskin and on Lok, and I hardly ever healed their pets except when it was about to be incaped. My priority was on the players in the group and not their pets and I still managed to level all of combat medic and 2 trees in doctor in about 5 days.
Players have become so dependant on pets in this game for just about everything that when the Dev'sfinally start to act and scale them downplayers complains. This is Star Wars, not Pet Wars. They are just putting the game back in the hands of the majority of players that don't use or want pets.
There is nothing saying pets can't be healed, and with the fact that most medics don't earn a lot of money because players refuse to tip them for their work, this is the perfect solution to a few problems. Yes you are not getting Xp but you can set a reasonable fee for healing a players pet. Now you are making some money that you may not have been before and they get their pet healed.
All that said, healing pets is not the only way to get good med Xp in the game and youare missing out if that is how you are going about it.
AMEN! People have gotten lazy with all these uber_pet_01's.

Its quite strange really, but I would lean towards keeping pet xp, even if its extreamly low, simply because only the powerful would be able to barter money for healing pets. So now novice medics are forced to grind away in med centers or doing what they can in the field.
I really dont see a CH paying someone good money for a novice medic to heal there 10k HAM pet with Stim A's!
Personally, I think healing pets that you OWN is good to be removed, since its a simple exploit, but other pets means that Medics and doctors could be throwing money away healing other peoples pets who will probably still not tip, and those who dont want to tip will probably end up buying Pet Stims, so overall, the medics loose out.
I have to agree that it seems that everybody has a pet, so maybe they should neuf combat xp for none CH/BE so that pets dont give them huge amounts of XP while they sit back and watch, maybe that would make them put the pet away and do it themselves.
I took a look at the petition to bring back pet healing xp. Looked...didn't sign.
It really doesn't bother me.
People who whine about this are the people who look for the easiest way to get the hardest things. If you want xp, heal wounds in a med center. If you don't want to stay in the med center, find a group to go out on missions. If the CH's in your group don't have the guts to fight for themselves, go on missions with non-CH's. Sooner or later, CH's will realize that they have to get their own hands dirty once in a while.
Secondly, I think this is more of a nerf on CH's than medics. Here's what will happen:
1) Medics will start charging to heal pets, because they are all greedy and won't do anything for free unless something is in it for them.
2) CH's won't want to pay to get their pets healed, because they are all greedy and won't pay for anything unless it's absolutely necessary.
3) CH's will get frustrated, and decide to move on to another profession.
Another thing.....people who fight correctly in groups can get some amazing things done. And don't give me that crap about "You haven't been to the tougher plantes..." I've seen it (and participated in it). If you're having trouble fighting in a group without a CH and a tank pet, find a group of players who know what they are doing.
And lastly..... thank you Ghost. You said it perfectly:
"Players have become so dependant on pets in this game for just about everything that when the Dev'sfinally start to act and scale them downplayers complains. This is Star Wars, not Pet Wars. They are just putting the game back in the hands of the majority of players that don't use or want pets."
If only, in real life, we could get our pets to go to work for us and do everything we need to get done. Bravo, Ghost.
You tell me how people are supposed to kill mobs that can hit for 1-2k per hit without a pet? Knockdown has been nerfed, so that really isnt an option, of course, you can use one of the numerous pathing bugs to simply make the big mobs stuck against some feature of the terrain, leaving it unable to move, but that still doesnt solve the medic problem. The main problem with this game is the fact that HAM bars do not increase, and mobs at the high end can kill you in one shot. All RPG games have a "Tank" who is able to take at least a FEW hits before dieing, but this one does not, leaving the only valid tank a pet. What good is a medic when you are fighting mobs that hit for 700+ once every 1.5 seconds or so? that Medic isnt going to get a lot of exp healing corpses is he?
I am sick and tired of the high and mighty already-mastered-doctors who say things like 'the noobs need to get off of their lazy butts'
If I heal something, I should get healing xp
Fundamental logic demands it
If we dont get xp, we shouldnt get the ability to heals pets
When the CHs howl about how no one can heal their pets and they have to buy uber-expensive pet stims to do it themselves, I bet the Devs might change their mind
Another idea is to redo the CH tree to include something like a vet branch..

Not to knock you in any way because I know what you are saying but, myself, I am maxed out on med Xp for Combat Medic and Doctor and I still continue to heal players, group at Fort Tuskin and rez10-20 players and hour, as well as trips to Lok with groupsneeding my service's and most of the time I never see a single tip from other players.I have never demanded a tip for my services. I do it because I enjoy it and take a little satisfaction that in thefact thatthese players have to rely on me to do what they need to do.
I will say it does irritate me sometimes when I rez the same player 6 times in a 10 minute period and don't get so much as a thanks, but Combat Medic was the profession I picked. Many players seem to have this idea that, ok i don't need such and such XP anymore so what do I do now? If this was the case Master Weaponsmiths and Armorsmiths would just quit and we would never see the really good weapons in the game.
The game is not about XP, its about doing theprofession you picked and if you are not enjoying it you picked the wrong profession.

You know, a lot of us are tired of the fact that this game is turning into a battle of who has the most powerful pet.
We are tired of players that have this idea that the only way to complete a mission or kill something is with pets.
We are tired of players that think the only way to get med XP is sitting in the cantina healing the entertainers.
Fundamental logic demands it
Well if logic demanded it it would also demand that playersbe required to tipmedics regardless because Stims and Wound Packs don't grow on trees. We could all just sit there and heal you with no meds and see how long that takes. The fact that I have to spend several hours everyday running missions to support my need for meds to heal other players irritates me greatly, but I do it.
I agree with you completely, Ghost. I do what I do in the game because I like playing my part, not because of money or exp. I was simply being cynical, because everyone seems to think that this game is all about getting rich and powerful (in the quickest and easiest possible way).
If you don't believe me, sift through the old posts on the medic board and count all of the "Medic's don't get enough tips" posts.
