I ususally carry around a large number of Stimp As and Bs and wound paks when I go to the Medical Center to heal and earn XP.I never really monitored my inventory because I have enough stimps, etc to heal an army. I was working with a tumbler late last night becasue business was slow and noticed (or at least I think I did) that when I hit the /tend damage button in my action bar, I was using stimp Bs to heal damage that more appropriately healed with a Stimp A.
My As heal up to about 100 points and my Bs 400-500 points. So the question is, if I use the /tend damage button, is the system smart enough to use the appropriate stimp or does it just take the one closest to the top of my inventory list? If I'm healing somewith with 90 points of damage will the a Stimp B be wasted?
To be certain I wasn't wasting my Bs I put short cuts to Bs and As in my action bar and use them for the time being.

/tendwound and /tenddamage do not use any stims they can heal limited amounts only.
Use the commands /healdamage and /healwound these will use your stims.

Great! That explains why it sometime works and sometimes doesn't... but what about the second part of my question... when I use /heal damage will the system use the more appropriate stimp or just randomly choose?

The only sure fire way to be assured that you use the pack that you want is to either put the packs up in the toolbar and click on them individually (meaning you don't use the /healdamage command), or to put one in your backpack.
When you use the /healdamage (or /healwound for that matter) it only uses whatever you have in your main inventory. Things in your backpack will not be used unless you specifically hit them (either double click on them or putthemin the toolbar).

Drag them into your toolbar and just click on them when you see fit
