Here's my advice for all the prospective medics. Go artisan at the start so you can get the survey tools that you needto find the materialsneeded forstims andwoundpacks right off the bat.

Yes, this is good advice. I would also suggest running through the tutorial because the NPC you kill for practice drops enough credits for you to be able to train a third starting profession when you enter the world.

Don't forget to use ypour community screen ingame to search for people that have both medic and helper tags. There are Beta testers out there willing to help you out with any questions you have.

Weeee.

The Sloth is wise!

The medic is probably one of the more challenging starting profs, if you actually start first as a medic (and not as another prof and then migrate over). Be patient and read some of the guides, they REALLY will help.

Also, find your fellow medics and look to them for support and help. Usually we're quite friendly =)

lol.. they're still tough eitehr way, considering my medic can now get Surveying I and Intermediate Pistol, and I barely have enough materials to make 10 Stim-A's! I at least have about 100 medical xp though.

Jay, if you can find an artesian to make you a metal survey device, then you can (after picking up novice artisian) survey for more metal and make whatever other survey devices you might need.

I wouldn't restart because I don't know if they've fixed the issue with your name being eaten if you delete and try to recreate.

I miss being a master combat medic and master doctor also. I do not miss them as much as my house and factory though. Life is so much easier then so you can just concentrate on having fun.

If anyone has any questions I'll be on corbantis as Slothy. I'll be more than happy to help you out however I can. I'm going for tailor right now so do not let that throw you off. I'm holding off on medic till I see how the cards fall for them in game and what the devs do with the class.

If your on Lowca or Chilastra I havecharcters on them also. Both named Slothy. I won't be on those two as much though because those are just my alts.

There are numerous serious, philosophical and practical problems with Medics right now. Just a few days before beta Medics were able to craft together a list of needs which Holo reacted to favorably (not to all of the needs, mind you, but many).

A few more words of warning:
As of now you should know that Medics craft more than any artisan profession. It is nowhere near as bad as it was a couple of weeks ago, and for that you have the tireless energies of the people posting above me to thank, but it is still bad. Very shortly you will find that you will need organics, chemicals, metals and water to construct the COMMONLY used medicines. Collecting those will be difficult and protecting them will be even harder. You will also find that there are relatively few people needing your services because of all the automatic healing that has been incorporated into the game since the fighter-types complained that they didn't want to need medics. The only way to advance as a medic is to heal the wounded, yet there are very few wounded. Also you will have to buy the stuff to make your medicines, you will have to spend a lot of rl time crafting the medicines, and you will likely be verbally abused if you attempt to charge money for healing. In fact, since we only get xp from healing, there will most always be a healer around that will be more than glad to do the healing for free (he probably has a big PA or a few harvesters).

Early on there are three good ways to get the xp you need: hang out in cantinas and heal the entertainers; get into a group (larger the better) and heal them during combat; hang out in a hospital and heal all those new players that come in with their heavy wounds from not respawning in the right city. That last pool of xp will probably shrivel up quickly, so don't get used to it.

Lastly, at the moment the professions that medics advance to, Doctors, Combat Medics and Bio-engineers, all need some serious work also. Doctor problems are generally the same as Medic but the other two have their own sets of serious issues. Please take every opportunity to be an advocate for your profession on these boards.
