I'm guessing you are using /tenddamage right?

That command does not give xp because it's to easily exploitable with macro's.

/tendwound will give you xp though.

In addition, if you have, for instance, Stimpack-A's in your inventory, typing /healdamage while targeting a damaged person will heal them and give you xp. You can also drag a stimpack to your quickbar, then click on another person and hit the corresponding Fkey.

Note that you don't get XP for healing yourself.

If you started as a medic you probably need to find a friendly Artisan to make you a General Crafting tool, and Mineral, Chemical, and Flora sampling devices. These allow you to find the ingredients to make stimpacks. The Artisan board probably has good info on those if you need to find out more.

doh! Right after posting I realized you ALSO need to become a Novice Artisan. Find an NPC Artisan trainer and pay them 100 credits for that. If you're not a Novice Artisan you won't be able to /survey or /sample for resources and you'll have to beg for or buy them. Neither is a pretty sight.

You don't *have* to be an artisan. It just helps a ton.

If you are looking for a good spot early to heal folks, hang out in cantinas. Introduce yourself to the entertainers, and heal their action.

The reason /tenddamage doesn't give any exp is because during beta a huge number of medics discovered you could get better exp healing in the cantina then you could in the hospital. In a single, evening with /tenddamage I made over 20k medical exp. That was a tad too extreme for free.

That was not the reason for the no xp according to Holo though. The reason they made it no xp is because entertainers where getting to much xp from healing the wounds to the medics doing that. My one question still is what exactly stops that scenario from still happening again besides giving the medic no motovation to do it unless the entertainer is a friend?

I was waiting for the post like this. =/ Sad that it is actually coming up in release. They should have put a note on /tenddamage to the effect of: "This ability is for emergencys, and will not give you any experience"

Medics are the only profession that has to rely on another profession (or person to give them stuff) to even get started.

There are two possible reasons that you are not getting xp:

You are trying to heal yourself. Self-healing does not give xp, so it is impossible for medics to solo. (why yes, that is a pet peeve of this soloing medic)

You are using /tenddamage and /tendwound instead of stimpacks/woundpacks. Those don't give xp and were put in because the devs thought we wanted them. We didn't.

The tenddamage/entertainer xp loop was this:

Entertainer dances/plays and looses action points but gets dancing/playing xp

Medic /tenddamges and gets medical xp, but take mind wounds, entertainer now has action back

Entertainer dances and heals medic mind wound, thus gaining ent. healing xp and dancing/playing xp but loosing action points.

and so on.

Both players get lots of xp and it is easy to macro, so they took away tenddamge xp. You can still do it with stimpaks though.
