Thread: What should I look for in a droid?

Hey all

I'm nearly Master Medic and am planning on taking Combat Medic next. There's a slim chance I'll change my mind and go Doc tho

I've never bought a droid and I see a lot of different types and people talking about modules and stuff...What would be the best type of droid and module to order to help me make the best stims, wound packs and CM specific stuff? Is there anything I should be especially aware of or look out for?

I'd quite like my droid to be an R2 type unit - will that limit my options or effectiveness at all?

Thanks in advance!

I got a surg droid with a med mod in it. Works great for crafting, u don't need to be near a station to make the good stuff. He can also get anywhere with me and I don't need a camp or hosp to heal wounds. I think u can get a med mod in a r2 unit. Not for sure, but your best bet might be a surg droid with a med mod.

What you should look for in a droid is a good personality. That is, if you are planning on settling down with this droid for a while, then you had best get along. If you are "browsing the market" then get one you think looks nice, with a functioning motivator. Cause once that motivator is gone, you are screwed. No more cleaning or cooking, and it won't listen to your commands anymore.

Oh wait, that's not a droid I'm talking about. That's a girlfriend.

Excellent advice, thanks Doda. My research has led me to conclude that the attractive options don't have room for personality modules or fully functioning motivators. The very rare instances of good looking, personable and fully functioning models I'veseen are either owned by someone else or extremely expensive to maintain.

I'm starting to think that I may be better off going it alone for a while .

If on the other hand I do take the plunge then thanks Bobadan for your input - though I'd heard that Surgical droids are faulty in some way (neither motivator or personality, though I don't care much for their looks much either). Ho-hum back to the DE forum to continue my investigations.

I can answer some of your questions for you. Since you will want your new friend to act as a private crafting station and also allow you to heal wounds away from camps and medical centers, you need at least two things:

1) Food/Chem Crafting Module - only one type, just ask for it to be added.

2) Medical Module - comes in 6 varieties. Level 1 causes your meds to be 35% as effective as if you were in a medical center, and they scale up to level 6 which is, I believe,95% of the medical center efficiency.

Any advanced droid can hold 2 modules, and some of them can hold more than that. I'm seeing a lot of posts of people who have the Surgical Droid models and are getting medical ratings of 110-115%. I suspect that the Surgical Droids offer a small bonus to healing on top of the medical module, but I haven't had that confirmed.

Personally, I'm still using my R5 droid with med module 4 and food/chem crafting station. He's 65% efficient since that latest patch. I just need to upgrade him once I get the funds and find a Master DE.

Special Notes:

Droid now die when they are incapped. They disappear from your datapad entirely. You may want to invest in a really good droid to put your crafting module into, then have a couple MSE droids made with level 6 medical modules in case you need to pull him out in a hostile environment.

There is a bug that was introduced with the latest patch that causes the medical modules to affect damage healing as well as wound healing. If you have a medical 1 droid out now, it will cut your effective damage healing down to 35%. The medical modules weren't supposed to affect damage, only wounds. If you put the droid away, you can start healing for full amounts again.

Hope that helps.

The DEVs said that post big-patch, the surgical droids were supposed to work right. That is to say:

-Functioned as a med module 6 without one being installed separately

-Slowly healed group members over time pro-actively, not just acting as a portable med center.

Has anyone been able to verify any of this, or is it still a bug. I should probably post this in the DE forum.

Where did the devs ever say this? I can't find any references to anything like this with my searches.

All I found was:
"Fixed a problem that prevented surgical droids from being used to heal wounds."

My advice atm would be to buy a cheap droid with a food crafting station. permadeath is a very bad thing, i just had my 35K R2 permadie on me the day of the patch, which made no sense (7 people attack a mob, but the mob kills the pet instead of attacking 1 of the 7 people that attacked it ) might want to have a good one for if you are at a safe place, but out in the Field you might just want the crafting station.
