I'm an apprentice marksman but i really need to learn some first aid to help out in the group. I've picked up Novice medic but have no idea how to advance this. Do I just use Stimpacks etc on other people or what ? Please help, I hate having to rely on the others......

Well, you just said it. Yes, to advance in the medic profession you need to heal OTHER people. Healing yourself doesn't yeild xp.

If you want the ability to heal yourself, but not want to heal other people to advance, try getting / using Stim B's, they are much better than Stim A's and can be used at Novice medic level.

If you're short on resources or credits, you can always use the /tendwound or /tenddamage commands they take a bigger chunk of your Mindpool but are free.
