I just picked bought novice medic about a day ago and have been helping out people in my group heal small wounds and all but I cant figure out how the hell to get medical exp. Do I need to heal people in a hospital to get it or with stimpacks to get it or what?

You must be using the wrong skill. You need to use the skill that uses medicine. If you use the one that causes you mind wounds it doesn't give xp.

I think /tenddamage and /tendwound give you no xp

and

/healwould and /healdamage use medicine and give you xp.

I hope I have them correct. If not you should be able to work it out.

You get medical xp for healing anyone other than yourself. This happens both for heals and wound treatment. You don't have to be in a hospital except to heal wounds. (With a medical droid and enough skill, even that isn't necessary)

If you are talking about medical crafting xp, you need to make stims and other parts to get that.
