Thread: Novice medic now impossible?

Okay, I decided to start a second character for some reason, and since I like helping people and Ive enjoyed being a medic on my first character, I decided I might actually go doctor with this one. Well after about a week of trying, I think Im ready to rant.

Putting aside the whole not getting tipped nearly enough thing, I now find xp is nearly impossible to get. My first char was created the first day of release, and being one of the few medics, finding people who needed me was no problem. Now Ive actually sat waiting in a med center, and people will walk in and out to be healed. I approached one guy and started healing him, he actually walked away from me. Okay weird, I think, I try asking him what's wrong and he doesn't answer. Fine, guess he wants to heal himself. A while later I try another, more busy med center, and start trying to heal this one player, and of course a doctor walks in. I hope no doctors take offense to this, but the guy walked over, healed the guy I was healing first, then proceeded to heal everyone else. Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't it polite to ask if you need assistance first? I know I have never just walked up and started healing someone that was being healed by someone else, unless they asked for my help, or I asked first and made sure it was okay. I actually stood up and while he was taking his two second rest healed some of the wounds of the last patient he was working on, and he actually yelled at me! Ive even tried the sitting in a cantina and healing the dancers' action with stims, and of course another doctor walked in and healed everyone in a second, and then continued to do so, leaving me perfectly helpless.

Now I know the game keeps getting 'fixes' and everything, but what most players don't realize is how hard it's getting to be for new players. I was lucky, and I was a new player when everyone else was, but I really do feel bad for anyone who is just now buying this game, especially if they chose certain starting professions. With all the 'fixes' medics no longer get xp from healing themselves, their pets, or other player's pets, so how is a novice medic supposed to get xp exactly? Again, no offense to doctors, but unless they throw a bone to a new char (which in my experience they dont) the new player is essentially screwed. After a week I have organic chem, but not even enough xp to get any of the other stats. This is just sad. I'm sorry to rant, but this really bugs me.

If you like sitting in the medcenter- My advice would be to craft some wound b asap. I can heal for about 60-85 pretty consistantly. Which can get most people out and on their way in 3-4 minutes with typical wounds.

If you dont like medcenter- Heal entertainers in cantina and listen carefully for groups going out too Dungeons/caves. Craft yourself or buy some good stim bs, 250+/25+, and go with them. You can grab 2-3k xp from one hunt with 10 people.

I have got 4-3-3-4 in just one weekend using a mixture of both of these.

I suggest going to Dantoonie, Yavin 4 any undeveloped planet with an outpost. There you have a lot of people with a lot of wounds which equals a lot of xp (and very few Doctors). When I go to Dantoonie I hardly ever see a Doctor in the Outpost Med center. Good luck!

This isn't just you. Even as a doctor, I find getting XP can be challenging at times. Not always, but it's not as simple as it used to be. (Dantooine is the best place I've found for XP. Nobody can get far from the bases, so there's lots of fighting right outside.)

The big problem is creature handlers. When people send their pets in, they avoid getting wound damage. The end result is that fewer and fewer players take damage. When the creature handler fad hit, the number of people visiting the medic centers dropped.

As a medic, you need to work on healing white, not black. Run a few delivery missions to buys some good stim-b's. Go to the busiest town that you can find and heal everyone that you can find. Run around. Have fun. Have no shame. Run-by heal everyone.

In order to be a successful medic, the most important play ability that you need is resourcefulness.

"Run by heal everyone"

Lol, thats a pretty funny idea :-) I hadn't actually wanted to go to the farthest reaches of space because it's a little expensive, and this char has no fighting skills yet. Since I've been playing since the beginning on my other character, I have a better idea of the game than someone who is just now joining, they're the ones I feel really bad for. Although I have to say thanks to all of you for your advice. :-) I hope a newby player and medic comes and reads this and gets some ideas. I'm sorry, I just had to let off a little steam. It just seems in the scheme of things they forgot the new players.

I think at least part of it is luck. I took up Medic as an extra so I could heal my pet and take care of myself for the most part out in the field. I'm now a Master Medic and so I don't bother healing others in the med centerbecause I want those who need the XP to get it. However, while I was going up the ranks, there were times when 5 people would come in and sit down and I would be the only one healing. There were other times when there would be me with like 1-1-1-2 and then 5 Master Doctors. One person would walk in and he would be healed instantly, leaving me with no XP.

My only problem is when I see Master Doctors or Master Medics or Master Combat Medics or ANYONE who doesn't need the Med XP come in and heal everyone, screwing those who need/want the XP. To me, becoming a Master Doctor would be like graduating from sitting in the med center healing to healing outside in a group while they take on big enemies. I don't understand why Master Doctors (or any other Master med profession that doesn't need any xp) comes in to the cantina and heals action damage when there are 3 novice medics doing the same thing. If they ARE still trying to get XP, then they can do it in a group where they are more useful than the Novice Medics. True, with pets it does make it harder, but I've been in a group on Lok where we were taking on Kimos and we still had people getting killed with 6 tank pets.

I get more exp than I can count at the cantinas or actually at the Star/Shuttle Ports. Get a med droid and you can not only heal dmg, but you can heal wounds at the ports.

Some of the best exp around and people are always there. Sit at the Coronet Starport, it is one of the central hubs.

Another thing the droid will do is ensure you get one with a food/chem crafting station on it.Make sure it has the 110 med mod on it also.

That way, you will heal wounds at 110% your mac efficiency and when you are waiting, you can always make and experiment more medical supplies with the crafting/med droid out.

Plus it is cool to have a little R2D2 following you around.

I have had people make comments about this to me as well.

Lets get this out of the way - the med center is not an xp only place. I became a doctor to heal people, and healing people does not stop when you master your craft. I still heal people in med centers and cantinas for fun! -gasp-

Doctors main ability is wound healing. If you are a medic you are in my realm if you are trying to heal wounds. Medics get no bonus to wound healing at all - the medics place is honestly the one out in the field, because medic is where all the bonuses from stim packs come from - First Aid.

As a doctor, I am no more suited to healing in the field, than a medic.

This is almost akin to saying hey! Why would a master weapon smith want to make weapons, after all they already hit master! Why are they taking away xp from me because I cant sell weapons!

This statement is almost akin to saying ok - you've won the game, now you dont need to heal anymore. Please start over as another class.

If as a doctor I dont heal wounds, what DO I do? Sit at lok where I see one person every 20 minutes? Go out on a hunting trip where any high novice / master medic would do just as well, and a combat medic would totally outstrip me?

As for the doctor that got mad when you ran over to heal on the patient he started on, yes I think that was wrong. However, as a doctor that visits the med center often, I dont heal ALL the people that come in - mostly just the very wounded people which would take the novice medic 10 minutes just to heal. You will find that people get quite disgruntled at having to wait in a line 5 deep just to have a novice medic heal their wounds. I find that I can generally speed the process up, without costing the novice medic much anyway.

Remember, just because I am healing and that is xp you didnt get, doesnt mean that its xp you would have if I were not there. People get bored and leave, go LD, or find another healer if there are too many people in the med center. Also you will note that medics will run through everyonce in a while to see how many patients / healers are in there, and if there are not many healers, they will stop and heal.

So even if that patient stays, thats not definately xp you would have gotten.
