Thread: A realist's guide to being a medic
Disclaimer: This post was written (mostly) in jest, and when I say medic, I am referring to low level medics, not doctors, combat medics, etc. Though much of the 'advice' applies to them as well.
I've seen lots and lots of tips on how to play as a medic. Supposedly you are supposed to hide behind fighter classes and heal them.
Cow Feces.
That is an ideal situation. One which, if you are not part of a PA -or if you don't always log on at the same time and at the same location as friends,- will rarely occur. Most often you are either alone or with one or two strangers, some of whom may also be medics.
That said, here is the REAL way to play as a medic:
1: Become an Olympic class coward; Learn to run like a lunatic, screaming bloody murder all the way. This can save your life countless times.
2: Do not under any circumstances attempt to engage pack animals (such as Gurrcats or Corellian Butterfly workers). You WILL die. Believe me, I learned this the hard way, and now I have a reserved tube at the cloning center.
3: You are not Rambo. You are not even Anna (from the movie "Predator"). You are a wimpy little healer whose primary ability is dependant upon expendable resources. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
4: If at any time you feel even slightly threatened, drop whatever you are doing and make a beeline for town, swerving only to avoid masses of red dots on your radar.
5: Feel free to act like the marines in the Aliens movies. Act all tough and bad-ass as you are going out, talking about how much alien ass you are going to kick, then when an actual creature leaps out at you from the shadows, scream like a little girl and cry for your mommy.
6: Don't be afraid to beg. My favorite tactic is to go prone and crawl around, shouting "Alms! Alms for the poor!" "Spare a cred for a medic down on his luck", and my personal favorite: "Trandoshans are people too/Trandoshans have feelings too!" If someone mocks you and does not tip, click on them and type /bite.
7: If you ask for tips and you encounter a more altruistic medic who considers the XP reward for healing to be reward enough, curse him out, violently and liberally. Make good use of the commands /slap /punch /cough /puke /bite /echuta /sneeze and any others that seem pertinent.
8: Whenever you encounter thebody of a dead player character, manuver your character so that it's feet are directly on top of thebody'sface. Then type /sit. Alternatively, try surveying, then sampling for resources (preferably gas) on their faces. Refer to this as 'farting'.
9:Don't join a faction. Aside from the fact that it will take you six kajillion years to even JOIN -and God help you if you want to get a complete set of armor... especially if you were unlucky enough to pick Trandoshan, or if you want to join the Empire, but are not Human or Zabrak,- you will limit the number of people you can heal, and thus the number of people who will tip you for healing them.
P.S. Before anyone starts frothing at the mouth, this post was written half in jest. Relax. Take some Prozac. And remember, every time you tip a medic, an Angel gets its wings.
You'll have to excuse me if I still some of your lines. My personal favorite"...remember, every time you tip a medic, an Angel gets its wings."
Keep fighting the good fight! ![]()
Comments on 3 and 9...
Actually medics are some of the best soloers in the game...esp if u get a lvl 4 in any marksman weapon type(except maybe rifle) and ranged support 4. Basically I can heal all day and never die...I can solo reds that not even other combat classes can kill...the only classes than can out solo me are TKA (they have downtime issues but mediation helps) and bountyhunters who can basically do that infinate crappy knockdown move which was supposed to be fixed on mobs but hasnt really...other than that a master medic with a good stim C and a good weapon can solo anything one on one for hte most part...i can even solo 2 reds...so yes u can rambo mobs if u know how to play ur toon right
9. Actually the way it is set up now, faction healers can heal more people than neutral healers...so do join a faction if you want and dont if you dont want to. As a neutral you cannot heal any overt character. But as a covert/overt u can heal any character outside of a overt of the opposite faction. So in actuality, being in a faction increases the pool of people you can heal from...
doh...i just read the points...lol
so used to skimming posts ...
LoL @ "get it off me! get it off me!" I'm not entirely sure why, but that brought a smile to my face.
Incidentally if anyone is curious, I play on Gorath. So if you play on that server, type /tip sephlock
