Thread: NPC medics healing in off hours
Thats a pretty complicated system that would potentially be very buggy
Would be better if NPC medics were just really, reallyexpensive. That way people would be more inclined to get healed by players if a vailable. It would also set a baseline for players to charge tips for their healing.
This system is NOT that complicated.
The first suggestionis a simple calculation based on the player economy.
The second suggestion is only slightly more compicated, since an actual purchase has to be made.
4-5cr per wound point healed, simple as that. Would be really expensive, plus they can only heal between 20-40 wounds per minute or so.
This would allow them to heal wounds, but wouldnt be very obtrusive to even the average medic.
I am not a medic primarily, but use medic skills to heal myself and my pets. My selfish concern is that I would like a faster method of healing in the med centers. In populated areas, there are often medics/doctors available in med centers. However, in off hours or low population areas, the only medics present are NPCs.
I would like to add a system that lets us request healing from the NPC medics/doctors. I would like to be able to choose 'heal my wounds' from an NPC doctor/medic - this would cause the NPC to heal my largest wound. It would be reasonable that the medic/doctor would charge - they should charge a rate based on the player economy. To do this, whenever a medpack is sold on the bazaar (either by region or galaxy-wide), the system would determine a credit per wound point rate - the NPC medic/doctor would charge twice this rate per point healed.
Optionally, the NPC medic/doctor could buy medpacks from the bazaar - buying cheapest available. The harder part of this option is that the NPC should use up the 'uses' in the purchased medpack before buying another off the bazaar - this means that the system has to track more things. This would provide a market for the PC medics/doctors that would like to sell medpacks, but would need to account for the times when there are no medpacks available in the region or galaxy-wide.

Yes, having NPC medics would be fairly straight forward
Having NPC medics that charge based off of Bazzar prices is asking a lot. What if there are none on the bazzar? What if someone came along and put up 25 stims all at the min price to make the NPC healer cheaper? What ifsomeone came along and put up a bunch ofmeds at the max prices to drive UP the cost of the NPC healerWhich types of meds would it base the price on? 200 credit WoundA? 2000 credit WoundC?
And then asking the NPC to actually pull from the bazzar? thats a bad idea. It would be ok for the seller, but what about the players that need to buy meds, but the NPC's keep buying them up instead?
Those ARE complicated systems, and ones that have potential to be full of bugs.
I'd be ok with NPC healers in med centers if they charged you 100cr/wound healed. No, that's not a typo. 20,000 credits to heal 200 wounds.
Make it worthwhile to wait for a real medic, or take up the skills yourself. But give the option for rich folk to get out fast without having to deal with other players if they want to.
umm 5cr/wound? make that 20cr/wound
that seems reasonable, and it would make a clear message to the players of how the medical system works....
During Beta, the devs did hint at a system like this because people were complaining that medical centers were empty. So to try and clear this up, they introduced auto-healing while sitting in a med center. Alas, they made it too powerful and people had no needs for medics so they reduced the rate to what it is at the moment. They also suggested that they introduce NPC medics that would heal for a fixed fee.
I think most of us medics/Docs/CMs just screamed out against this because it would make people stop seeing medics and basically nerf the use of medics except for healing out in the field. But now, I think they should implement it. If they put it at the right price, people would see how valuable medics really are. They are the most required profession along with entertainers in this game, or else everyone would be running around with all black HAM bars.
As for price, I think that along the lines of 50-200c a wound would make it reasonable.
Players jumped up and down for it, medics jumped up and down against it.
As players max out medic and doctor skills and leave the med centers... this idea is coming back... but is stil lgenerally opposed by medical players... unless it is very expensive.
Be aware though, any NPC's healing for pay will set a rate that live medics will be able to see... many borderline free medics will start charging (but less than the NPC)... expect healing to cost more across the board if this ever goes in.
Also don't expect this to go very high on the medical request list, te peopel ehre won't generally vote for it over other issues.
Bring it up on the discussion forum for the new Community guy to see... It isn't going to get a ton of votes around here.

The SEARCH method only works for the city you're in and the surrounding area, if there's no healers nearby, you should be able to extend your search to find titled medics or entertainers on the whole planet. That way you could contact someone, offer money for a short of 'house call' and still keep in touch with healing.
I know i've made personal visits for 2k-3k credits on the same planet, and i'm there within 5 minutes, patient healed within 10.
So there should be a way to get in contact with healers not in your city.
