Thread: Quirks with healing oneself in battle these days?
Lately I've noticed my heals sometimes don't work 'right' in combat.
Let me first say that I keep a Stim C (for during combat) in my upper hotbar and a Stim B in the lower (for between combat) It used to be that as long as you were ready to heal and you were targeting an NPC or creature you were in combat with, once you hit the hotbar function key the heal would apply. It worked seemingly like /peace which took priority over what is in the combat que.
Now, sometimes (can't figure out why or what conditions causes) it gives you the "Target must be a creature or player bla, bla, bla"
Or sometimes there is an insane delay from the time I hit the button until it heals. Usual I end up in the cloning center before it happens...
So in regards to the delay, does it now enter the combat command que? I.E. if you have something spammed and you need to heal you best clear that to get the heal right away?
And in regards to the semmingly random 'You can't do that' message: **edit**?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you are right.
It's in the combat queue.
God forbid you use a special while your tank is getting beat up. If that queue doesn't clear up fast enough, better kiss 1% of your durability goodbye heh.
That's why you get the message too. If you target a player with it, but it's held up in the combat queue, then target a mob to queue up a special, it'll think you're trying to heal the mob.
The best way top be sure the heal goes off, is to target yourself, then "clear the queue" using the button on the bottom of the combat queue, then hit yuor heal.
Doing it in any other order, can lead to different amounts of lag problems, especially hitting the heakl before you dump the queue.
The healing in combat, and the combat queue thing is on the current top 5 list, and is being debated as I write this... Genera lfeelign is we want it in the queue completely, and not the way it is now (whatever that is).

There is actually debate about if it is in the queue or on a separate timer.. Zarlor and I are trying to beat a dev into telling us.

I've had it where my Injury Treatment mods don't come into effect, and I'll be healing at the base 10-seconds-between-heals rate. I have to log to get it to work correctly.
However, as far as combat healing goes, I haven't had too much of a problem - apparently it does enter the combat queue, as I'll cue the heal, then wait for the specials to run out. I can time it pretty well to where I know my ham bar is going to be low after X specials, so I put a heal in there, and then put more specials into it. The heal usually goes off as normal and then the subsequent specials continue as normal.
There are only3 times when I get the message "Target must be a ..."
1. When I'm targetting a mob and shooting specials at it, and then it dies before the heal goes off;
2. When I target an object (like a harvester) accidentally; or
3. When I target an NPC or mob outside of combat.
Other than that, as long as I am targetted on a living mob during combat, I will heal myself.
Actualy I would say either in the queue completey or out of the queue completely (meaning that combat shouldn't affect it in any way, instead of causeing wiered and differing amounts of "lag" like it does now, it would just heal as soon as you hit it, heal timer permitting.) My persoinal preference would be the latter. Healing tends to be an emergency action, somthing you want to happen, to use some Doctor language, STAT! So when I heal I'd much prefer it happen NOW. I'd rather have my heal delay my weapon than have my weapon delay my heal.

Just so people know when to expect a heal to go off. As it is right now...Instant, only limited by diag skill is really kinda overpowered compared to a set use speed in the queue... because solo typed could heal and shoot at the same time.. too much of a force multiplier IMO.

i want to add something i am jsut a couple of weeks a medic(person)but found something out tonight ,when i use my rifle 5.2 speed and are firing and wanna use a stim to heal it takes forever ,but when i use my other rifle 2.0 it almost takes effect as soon as i press it.
this is not right is it ?
Well, after doing some more testing, it is definitely put in to the combat specials sequence.
The reason I didn't notice it much before recently is because I wasn't using my new 'Opening Salvo' combat macro against the tougher opponents that I am now (it's relatively long). When I hit the macro and then hit the heal, as soon as the macro is done, I see the heal hit.
Still haven't figured out why sometimes when I'm engaged with a live target I get the error message unless it has to do with cycling through enemies?
All in all I agree with Zarlor that it should be an immediate thing like /peace or /burstrun that happens immediately and cancels out any combat sequence. That would do away with the force multiplier issue that Traigus brings up. (Which I agree would be too muchif you could heal & fight in independent queues)
So to reiterate what I personally would like to see as the outcome we drive for: That the heals interrupt the combat queue like/peace or /burstrun...![]()
Once again I really appreciate the feedback.
