Yeah you want to practice making them instead of actually making hoardes of them so that you don't have them coming out of your ears.
You make the BECs because they're the most crafting xp bang for the buck.
Bio Effect Controllers are a sub component of the more advanced healing devices, such as stim packs (B and above), wound packs, enhancement packs (buff packs), state healing packs and cures.
They're pretty much used in everything, their main purpose is to control how many uses you get from one of the above mentioned items.
Most of the above mentioned items will require more than 1 BEC or ABEC with an identical serial number (produced in a factory. If you're going into the medical world, then this is an item you will be very familiar with soon.
