I have a couple of questions as I am dabbling in the Healing Arts. I was wondering if someone could explain the difference between Heal Damage and Tend Damage? Also, is it imperative to get the First Aid skill as soon as possible or can one live without it for some time?

Thanks

Tend abilities don't use ingredients such as Stim Packs and Wound Kits.Heal abilities do.

This means that it is possible if you have no cash, resources, or Wound Kits, to go to the medical center and use /tendwound <woundtype> to heal wounds and gain experience. However, tend commands make you take mind damage, wounds, and battle fatigue which you'll need to get fixed by an entertainer. Tending damage will not give you experience.

Healing commands will always give you experience (healing damage on other players, and healing wounds on others, and I think, to a lesser extent, yourself), but require you to buy or make wound kits.

I recommend that any new medic pick up the artisan profession and get mineral, chemical, and flora survey tools so you can always gather the resources to craft stim packs and wound kits. This will also help you gain in Organic Chemestry skill.
