Intersting.. would give DE's something else to make...

Droids do die in the wilderness.. they also have an upkeep (batteries) and take up datapad space...

It could even be a new droid chassis... bf11 mining droids...

This is the kind of suggestion I was ranting about needing in the doctor version of this thread...

This idea helps 2 professions.. and maybe more (High level ranger camps need metals too)... without giving any skills away free to medics.

I have a suggestion.

Why not allow Droid Engineers the capability to create Survey and Mining chips for droids? Owners of droids equipped with these new chips would be able to survey and collect material without requiring the user to havenovice artisan skills. The chips could come in various levels and improve in capability as they scaled, but never reach the capability of a level IV surveyor. The droid could be used in conjunction with a survey tool or (if possible)the droid would be manufactured with a built-in survey tool or tools. This might give the Binary Load Lifter droid a purpose.

I've also recommended (in another post) a similar modification to Surgical droids where theywould allow non-medic owners the capability to heal themselves. The caveatwould be the user would have to purchase medical supplies and store them in the droid and the medicine would function at a reduced rate (scaling up with higher-end chips). This would give us a much larger market for medical supplies.

I guess you could argue that allowing droids the capabiity to perform novice-level functions would reduce player-dependancy. However, given their vulnerability to MoBs,pathing issues (getting stuck on server boundaries), and perma-death - as long as the skill was scaled back I don't think this would be detrimental.

Thoughts?

This is an RPG not a solo game. Make friends, join PAs, whatever... and then make a surveyor find the resources for you. That's what I do and it works perfectly.

I read every mesage in every thread in 7 boards (including the 3 medic ones)here... and most of the Chilastra one.

You'd be amazed how many posts can crop up when typing a giant rant in another thread...

Maybe it would be easier to follow, if you only posted the topic in 1 board? And just posted links in the other 2.. instead of spreading it out all over the place...

What else do all of you have on this? Anyone else have solutions?

Yeah, yeah... I spread this thread out over three boards. That was a bit much. I tried simply linking to this one after you mentioned it but the original on the doc forum seemed to take off so...

btw.

"What else do all of you have on this? Anyone else have solutions?"

That's the question that should've been asked from the get-go

Rage: The problem is that I don't trust them to do the hard work that it takes to find only the best resources. Relying them on creature resources is one thing but when it comes to organics and such, I just don't trust them to have sampled everything.

But the reality is that Medic and Doctor are crafting professions. The fact that they don't start as artisans is, in a way, more of a design flaw than a separation of powers. Surveying is as necessary to this profession as it is to artisan, etc. and so perhaps it should be a part of it.

That said, I don't believe it is going to happen.

The solution to your problem is this... because I had this same problem and this is how I got my 28 skill points back...

  • Find a good location for resources..

  • Plop down one of each harvester.

  • Plop down some power generators

  • Untrail all of your artisan skills

  • Switch your harvesters to whatever is highest (or something you can use)

  • Sell that stuff on the bazaar (or keep it for use)

  • Buy whatever else you need with the money

I haven't sampled for anything in over 2 weeks and I have all the resources I could ever want and I only check my harvesters once every other day.

well... since this last patch (aug. 20th) they made it so harvesters keep thier maintance costs when made back into a deed. now with this, i believe this is better than the base /survey skill cause u can see all the potential densities when u place ur harvesters and can reclaim them if u do not like the spot, no extra cost!

I think that little fact slipped his mind

But yes, redeeding harvesters STILL costs money. What has changed is the fact that any mainenance credits above the redeed cost, as well as power, remained with the harvester after it is redeeded.
