Thread: Medic group tactics?
Hello fellow Medics![]()
Once again, I am aspiring to be a Combat Medic and will also speicalize in Doctor to be a super medic in the field. I am having difficulty understanding my role in the field.
I know that my primary purpose is to heal people but I don't think I am going about it correctly. I usually follow the brawler in the group and heal him as fast as I can. First question:
1. Is there a difference in how much you can heal if you heal while firing on your target rather than just stand by and heal?
It seemed to me that there was a differnece but I don't know if that was due to the quality of my stimpacks or if I was able to heal more when I was not firing at all.
2. When in combat situations, should I just run right up to the group member who needs healing and heal them as fast as I can and hope the mob does not attack me?
I am going for combat medic, so if I am just supposed to heal the brawler in a fight without firing my carbine, how am I ever gping to get the Ranged Weapon Support Specialist skill so I can advance to Combat Medic?
Maybe I am making this to complex, but I don't think I am being an effective healer in a group and I need to be.
Thanks in advance,
Parna
being a good combat medic is tough, cuz you have to find the balance between healing and fighting.
Heals dont change value inside or outside battle. The variance you see is based on the charge on the pack and can vary greatly.
I usually fight and heal. Most of the time im in a ranged grp and we use threaten shot to keep the mob away so Im not too familar about how to heal a brawler that well yet.
My tip is to use auto-attack if you have to heal alot and not to fill your combat queue with lots of moves as you can special move and heal. I find its usually like ill take 1 bodyshot then heal then another bodyshot then heal again...depending on the difficulty of the mob, I will heal more and fight less or fight more and heal less...
you just gotta get a feel for it.
Remember the /peace command is ur best friend...if u really need to get off a heal fast, spam /peace and try to heal...works for me not pretty but effective...
also try to use as many special attacks before a mob closes to melee range or shoots back. the more damage you do with more xp youll get...
Thx for teh great advice Elenora![]()
So, you are going for Combat Medic as well. Are you specializing in a weapon or just doing the Ranged Support Specialist?
So, when you say auto-target, what do you mean by that, is there a command that auo-targets mobs or is that a macro you made?
Oh, and lastly, the quality of the Stimpack, what determines, wheter I have moderate to great succes? From reading boards, I was told it depends on quality of organic and inorganic materials. I am with a permanent group who take care of my material needs but they need to know from me what materials to get me. What shouldI tell them?
Thanks again,
Parna
Auto target means attacking without using special moves. This can be done using /attack. Since you can heal until your combat queue is empty, you need to keep it as clear as possible and be ready to /peace to clear out of it. If you have the time to do it try to use specials to get more damge and xp.
Effectiveness is based on materials and experimentation. The damage variance is as far as i can tell random. Sometimes you just get a dud. I have noticed this even when using my juiced packs. Sometimes you get a weak heal. I havent found a way around it. There are other posts in this thread that deal with how the different materals used can effect a pack so look around this board for them.
You can do it a number of ways...
Sometimes if the need for healing isnt urgent, i wont bother with /peace.
I will body shot then click heal...when the heal goes off ill click body shot...
or you can body shot, /peace, click stim, body shot, /peace click him..etc...
using /peace may save you a bit of time...but it gets a little more confusing.
/peace can help reduce combat lag a bit...
Hmm, ok, I can see that now, but when do we get 'body shot' and if we already have it, how do I use it? I have just been hiiting teh attack button.
Parna
oh Body shot is pistol skills...
Im not sure what your weapon skill is...
but you can use any of your specials attacks..or you dont even need to use a special attack and jsut let it auto attack...
Yes, I'm using carbine but how you just said, is how I am already doing it. I stay close the the person getting hit and auto-target mob. I keep hitting teh stim pack button every 5 seconds or so that it lets me while I am firing. Now I am back to my original issue:
When using this method and not just healing only, are the heals I am doing with the stim packs lowered because I am firing at a mob at the same time?
Thank you fro being patient with me,
Parna
I really love this game![]()
i havent noticed any decreased healing while fighting...so i would say no but thats just my opinion...
2) Do specials one at a time so you don't have to spam /peace to clear the queue and so you can keep an eye on your HAM stats. Get a VERY low HAM-cost weapon if you're into specials. I am lazy, I usually just /assist and then medic.
3) Figure out who the 'troublemakers' are in the group and keep a eye on them, usually 5/20 people regularly take damage and you can pre-target them
4) If you sense a big fight is coming up, sit down and regen your mind during it instead of fighting. Your heals > your damage.
5) Ask people to let the brawler taunt so you can focus big heals on one person rather than throwing off 20 little ones
6) Don't feel guilty if someone dies, it happens. Don't be afraid to ask for a camp break, medic is a hard job.
7) Be careful healing incapped people if the monster is still hovering on them, 3 incaps in 10 mins = death
8) Don't use /healdamage hotkey, use hotkeys with stacks of regular, AE, and ranged stims so you can use the right one for the job
9) Use ranged as a patch or quick heal, stim-C for larger heals after you get to someone
10) Heal yourself before everyone else. Your being alive can save the group. The Marksman being alive is far less likely to help.
Is it ever really effective? It seems to me that I'm either doing healing that could be done after the fight or we're doomed and it's just not fast enough. But I'm still very new.
Ok, I am trying to understand that...
When you say you get off a body shot then heal, are you refering to the combat queue? And if so, how are you getting your character to hit one tim then heal one time, then heal? That is where I am confused, unless you are hitting peace in between...
Sorry, I am new at this as well....
