Thread: A few commands to help Medics and Doctors out. And in the long run everyone else.
No matter how you look at it the Healer professions are the only ones who don’t make any money doing what they were designed to do. Not only don’t you make money but you loose money. In order to make money as one of the Healing professions you have to stop healing people and get into another profession.
So the commands are:
/damagepay <amount per unit healed>
This sets the amount per unit you are willing to pay to have your Health, Action, and Mind damage healed.
/woundpay <amount per unit healed>
This sets the amount per unit you are willing to pay to have your wounds healedand alsoBattle Fatigue.
/enhancepay <amount per unit healed>
This sets the amount per unit you are willing to pay for enhancements. AKA buffs.
/revivepay <amount per unit healed>
This sets the amount you are willing to pay to be revived.
/curepay <amount per unit healed>
This sets the amount you are willing to pay to be cured of poisons or diseases.
Every time a player is healed, enhanced, revived, or cured the amount is transferred from their bank account or cash on hand to the Medic/Doctor who did it. If they don’t have any money the Medic/Doctor simply receives a message stating that they don’t have credits to pay.
Change it so that when you /diagnose or Examine players as a Medic it shows the players setting of these commands.
Being that these amounts are set by the players themselves there is no way anyone can complain about a forced tipping system. A player could set them to zero if they’d like.
I’ve been playing a combatcharacter after getting burned out on my Medic/Doctor. I’ve been tipping for heals in this fashion and it works great. I’d love to have these commands so I could just set them and not have to do it manually every time I’m healed.
Think of the end game if people don’t pay one way of another for healing, enhancements, cures, or revivals. Medics and Doctor won’t be willing to perform these actions on other players that they don’t know. The only people who’ll have the benefit of Medics/Doctors are large PA’s that support them and people with two accounts who created a Medic/Doctor just so they could buff their uber combat character. Once you become a Master Doctor there is no incentive for you to heal, enhance, cure, or revive anyone unless they are a friend. This will be very bad for the game and will be very hard on casual players, and people new to the game.
If the Dev’s really don’t want to do any kind of a billing system for Medics/Doctors they should set up a state sponsored medical system and have the state pay wages. I don’t want to see Medics and Doctors disappear from the game, or worse, turn into heal and buff bots.
Excellent post. This is one of the most innovative ideas I've heard. I doubt it will gain any support or ever be implimented but genius never is.
A fewthoughts to consider:
- What is the default setting? If you make it zero most people will probably never change it and it then accomplishes nothing. One credit seems to be a good starting point
- What happens when someone has no credits? If you receive a message similar to the opposite faction "It would be unwise to heal this person" message without a work-around it could cause serious problems. Then again, why shouldn't someone have to go run some delivery missions to pay for healing?
- If you include damage (rather than just wounds and buffs) it might be too limiting while in combat. I'd hate to be struggling to keep my group alive and then have to cope with a confirmation screen to actually heal them when their bank account runs dry.
I like the idea but would like to see one more item.
/healpay <amount per unit healed>
This would set all of the others the same. If I'm willing to pay 100 for each i would much rather just do the one and have it set the rest, also if Im in a group and we are out hunting i would have them set there pays to 0 as there is a differentdynamic (for me at least) healing on a hunt as opposed to healing in an MC. One command to change them all would make it easy for group members to set their pay rates to 0 so I can heal them during a fight.
ahh pipe dreams are fun,

interesting idea...how would we be able to check the prices that a patient was offering for these services?
i mean if this system was implemented we would constantly have to check what some1's price was...
so if some1 walked in with a price too low, no one would heal him right until he raised the price to a point where some1 decided it was worth it? so then how do u check if he raised the price? ud have to constantly have to check him...
its interesting but a lot of issues come up...and what if some1 walks in with a 1000 per point of heal on him...i can see people screaming at each other about healing too much or stealing patients...
the med center could potential turn very ugly...
"What is the default setting? If you make it zero most people will probably never change it and it then accomplishes nothing. One credit seems to be a good starting point"
Personally I’d make the default zero. It would be up to Medics and Doctors to get the word out. With my Ranger character I’ve been tipping one credit per unit healed on wounds, sometimes with a nice bonus tip at the end. When I get a heal, "Player X heals your Action for 54." (Can’t remember the exact words right now.), I target the one responsible and /tip 54. I do this to whoever slaps a heal on me. So far all the Medics/Doctors I’ve run into have loved my tipping Method. It gets confusing when a bunch of people are healing you and some people get left out though. Whether I’m playing my Medic/Doctor character or my Scout/Ranger character I’d love to have these commands.
"What happens when someone has no credits? If you receive a message similar to the opposite faction "It would be unwise to heal this person" message without a work-around it could cause serious problems. Then again, why shouldn't someone have to go run some delivery missions to pay for healing?"
I was thinking that you’d still heal the person. You’d just receive a message stating that they didn’t have the money to pay instead of a messages stating how much money was transferred to your account for the heal. And there shouldn’t be any kind of confirmation pop up to slow things down, whether they have money or not.
"If you include damage (rather than just wounds and buffs) it might be too limiting while in combat. I'd hate to be struggling to keep my group alive and then have to cope with a confirmation screen to actually heal them when their bank account runs dry."
That’s why I thought there should be different commands for wound healing and damage healing. IMO the damage healing should be set very low, in the tenths of a credit. Just enough to cover the cost of the stimpacks the Healer is blowing though while healing a group. And again no confirmation pop up window.
I wouldn’t like to see any pay commands for skills that don’t use up crafted medications.
I’d like to say that I’ve seen both sides of the issue now. First as a struggling Medic/Doctor who had to go in the resource business to be able to afford to heal. And then as a Ranger. Let me tell you it’s no big deal to pay Medics/Doctors for healing. Even when I come into the Medical Center with full black bars (Yup, it can happen. 1 Action, 1 Health, 1 Mind. And various secondary stat wounds.), I’m only out onedestroy mission with generous tipping. And if you're broke is it really to much to ask to run a couple of delivery missions? I was running hours and hours of delivery missions as a Medic. If there was a system for everyone to tip at least 1 credit per wound healed Medics and Doctors wouldn’t have to get a day job to be able to afford doing what they love.
I do like this idea, but I just feel it could be something to cause a lot of issues.
What I think would work well: If your wounds are healed, you get a pop-up window, that asks how much you would like to donate... also with an item window. Know how nice it would be to heal someones wounds, and then recieve a stack of quality hide? I dont know about you guys, but I would rather get minerals than credits ![]()
god no...no extra pop up windows like...just use the normal one...
something like that could be very annoying and get people killed...
say u are fighting something and then some1 heals ur wound during the fight...
and boom instant trade window mid combat?
i just worry any pay system will make the med center an ugly place to be...
people will literally be trying to steal patients from otherdoctors to get more money...
